With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

"But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion". So everyone involved with the atheistic regimes of Nazi Germany, Communist China and the USSR was evil? Good people have done horrible things in the name of causes that have nothing to do with religion. Mr. Weinberg turns a clever phrase, but I think you and he both need to learn a little more about human nature.

That's total nonsense and I'll take Steven Weinberg to task any day for a ridiculous statement like that. I will never defend religion......it takes all forms, and when it's good, it's very, very good, and when it's bad, it's horrible. However, the Bible says there is only ONE good, and that is God. People, from the fall of Adam and Eve, were born with a propensity to sin.....in other words, it's easier to do evil than to do good. If people do good acts, it's because God is working in them whether they acknowledge it or not. If people do bad acts, then it is evil (originated by Satan and his cohorts) working in them, and most of them admit it.

We need to quit blaming religion for our problems. That's getting mighty old. Quit whining and take individual responsibility for what we think, say and do.

True Christianity inspires good in it's followers. Jesus said that we would know the true religion by the fruitage it produced. He said that a good true produces good fruitage, and a rotten tree produces rotten fruitage- Matthew 7:15-23. Many people are bitter because of the hyprocrisy they have seen in religious organizations, and by the horrible acts they've seen committed in the name of religion.

Thoughts? Hm.

Perhaps because one of the worst things that man can do is pretend to be doing good in the name of God, but he uses religion to swindle.

Gives the good folks a bad name and gives a false sense of what God is really like.

Thinkg about the terrorists who rammed into the WTC on 9/11. All in the name of their "religion." *Shakes head*. If I thought God wanted that I'd ignore Him.

I think that there is good and bad in everyone, the soul desires to do good but the body with it`s passions leans to the bad, it is in following the the words of Christ that will determine how you live and I mean to the letter and not pick`n`mix Christianity.

I believe people are mostly bad. Period. It is not the nature of Man to be good or do what's right. A man has to work really, really hard to be good. My religious beliefs help me make the better choices. But, I am still wicked, to the core.
