I usually say something like "Mickey Mouse, who are you?"

Good bye - obviously these calls do not know who they called so you should not accommodate by volunteering information. Alternately if you think you recognize the voice you can say "you called me - so who are you?" that way if it is just a solicitor or a call you don't want you can always tell them it's a wrong number. I also routinely hang up on Pollsters, those who call me by my first name, those who ask for the "lady of the house". I don't have time for phone pollution - no one really does. Good Luck!

Just say you called me I didn't call you and if you will you tell me who you are and I may tell you who I am.

Usually you get something like that from people who have mis-dialed a phone number, but were never taught phone etiquette or someone drunk or high or a smart aleck kid trying to impress his/her one friend.

That pisses me off sooo much.... when I lived with my mom and I recognized the voice of the caller, I did say my name because my voice is very similar to my mom's, so it was either one of her friends trying to reach her, or one of mine who thought it could be my mom picking the phone and making sure it was me.

However, since I started living alone (and this happens to me at work a lot too) I just ask "Who are you trying to reach?" because if the caller knew me they'd know nobody else but me can answer the phone.... so those are usually wrong numbers and I don't provide my name or any info about myself for that matter, just let them say who they were intending to call and inform them that they reached the wrong number. *CLICK*!

I simply ask them who they would like to speak to. If they give a name of someone I don't know, I let them know they have dialed the wrong number and hang up.

I always find this funny...and respond "who is this" or "that depends" or just laugh.. they usually have dialled wrong and were expecting say their mom or girlfriend and I ended up answering and all proper etiquette went out the window

That really pisses me off. I know someone who does it to me. I will say "who is calling please?" If they ask who is this again, I will ask them "who do you want to speak to?" . I will pretend I don't know them even when I knew. I think they know who I am but refuse to address me due to some ego issues.

I just say "...I don't know, are ya gonna give me a clue, we're closed today for stock taking.."

and what about the ones who call and ask "have you a few minutes to spare..?"

I don't know ASK me later.

I ask them who they are since they're the one calling.

This is one of my biggest PET PEEVES. I immediately say, "who's THIS?" firmly. If they don't say, I hang up.

I used to get dirty phone calls from someone who did not readily identify themself, so I don't play around.
