As a designer, I HATE wallpaper and always dissuade my clients from it. Mainly because styles go out so often and nothing is more of a pain in the butt than taking down wallpaper. Also unless you plan on never selling your house, 99% of people are not going to agree with your choice of wp. They wont buy the house because it's too labor intensive.
My opinion is you can get the same look with a faux finish, and when you're sick of it, you just paint over it.

It's your choice, but I gave up on wallpaper years ago. It is so labor intensive and then difficult to change if you decide to do something different. Paint is so easy and gives you flexibity. The colors and finishes in paints are so varied now, it would seem you could achieve the look you want.

With wallpaper if you get tired of looking at the pattern it's hard to get the paper off and hard to paint over.Also you might have a hard time finding another wallpaper to cover the old one because it might show through the new paper.
