I just watched "meet the natives", and the tribespeople believed that this was the case. How did this come to happed, and why prince phillip?
I feel sorry for them if they actually meet him and see that hes just a normal person...

It's a pretty complex story.
Basically, in the 19th Century they were visited by a Christian missionary from Britain. According to their legend, this enraged their local God, who sent his son to Earth in human form to the UK to sort out this mess. You can see that a lot of this is influenced by what the missionary told them of Jesus.
Then, in the 1970s, Prince Philip arrived on a big white yacht, acting pretty impressive and god-like. They asked where he was from and when they were told Britain, they drew the connection and decided that he was the son of their God.
There are similar religions. On one Pacific island the people worship a mythical American soldier called Joe Frum.

There are some people who believe this. He could live there and have his pick of the local women. He'd just have to go around naked except for a straw penis sheath.
Probably a bit old for that now.
Rastafarians still believed Haile Selassie of Ethiopia was God even after he was dethroned and died in a mud hut.

Yes it is the people on a Pacific Island the name of which escapes me. I do not know how this happened, but there is also a Cargo Cult on other islands and that goes back to WW ll and the American invasion with all the materials etc that they had
