No dispespect intended but as most of us don't actually know you, your question does sound a bit clueless.
What do you intend doing with the car? If you intend doing 2 miles once a week to the shops and back, then you'd be looking at a different car than if you were towing a trailer, fully loaded with five passengers over the entire length of the country every day.
More info needed.

i think you should consider a vauxhall omega! a very luxurious drive which sticks to the road very well and are usually fast. they are reliable and the parts ( if needed ) are easily obtainable. omegas are surprisingly cheap to buy and are extreemly under rated. i have had a lot of cars in the past and i must say the omega i own now is the best car i have had so far! i bought a 1998 (r) 2.5 v 6 manual estate for £600 and it has all the extras. great stereo, air/con electrics etc. you cannot go wrong!

Anything with a Toyota badge.
I always found them a bit bland but after years of being at the top of the manufacturers league for reliability I finally bit the bullet and bought one (a Yaris).
I was amazed at the level of kit and clever gizmos included for the money and have actually stopped looking for potential faults as in over a year the only thing I have had to do is put fluid in the washers.
And they are surprisingly rapid and agile

I've got 2 cars - the cheapest one is my favourite.
It's a Piaggio Ape (pronounced Appy). 3 wheel van, 49cc, top speed on the flat 25mph, does 100mpg, one seater, tax £15 per year, full comp insurance £50 per year and costs £4k new but you can get one second hand with very low mileage (usually less than 1k) for about £1,500

The Ford Ka is a good bet for this price range as they are a sturdy car and surprisingly agile around corners and can get up a good speed too - you can even burn off cars with much bigger engines! Why not test drive a few cars and see what takes your fancy?
