As the mother of a 10 month old baby son I'm always being told how little boys grow up devoted to their mums! I really hope so as he is my world and I love him so much!!

However, I've also been told "Oh its better to have a daughter as boys are less close to their mums as they get older".

I don't beleive this.

So guys, what does your mum mean to you?

Yup, you are right, little boys do grow up devoted to their mums, im the specimen. in Islam, If you want to go to heaven, without your mom blessing..you will never be able to see heaven.

My mother is very important to me; she raised me single-handedly and I am her only child. But I am also the father of four children of my own, so I don't have as much time to devote to her as I would like. As a result, when we do get to talk we typically talk for hours as if we were right next door. (We actually reside in different states.) More often than not, the circumstances your son winds up dealing with will dictate his responsiveness from time to time...but I have no doubt he'll always be devoted to you.

When my untie had a little boy she said her little girl was close to her at the start but then left and became more devoted to her own life and her little boy wasn't as close in his childhood but keeps in contact and is devoted to her even with his own family e.c.t

I would say though that it largly amounts to how you bring up the child and how you socialise it. Me and my mother are close we always have been like best freinds so i think its down to the childs personality and how you bring them up alot more than just gender.

my "mum" means the world to me, but she always says "a son is a son until he takes a wife, a daughter is a daughter the rest of your life" so i am not sure how that will pan out..

I am sorry to burst your impression but I haven't spoken to mine for 20 years.
I will never speak to her either.

She almost killed my father for no reason other than he made her a coffee with 2 sugars instead of 2 sweeteners.

You reap what you sow.

Don't adjust the way you are because of the sex of your child.
Its your child , love them for WHO they are not what they are and they will love you back.
