what a scary thought...
being raped. having children with your dad, brother, and total strangers. having your children's father eat the children... having children even when you don't want to have them...having mothers as well as fathers abandon children when things are tough. having the father murder all of a woman's children because he only wants her to have his...

A world without Marriage would be totally against Gods plan for man. Also you would have more single parents than you have now. That would not be good. A kid needs both partents to be raised up properly. Responsibility would go out the window. No one would care, they care very little today, it would be worse without a marriage license, talk about no child support. Single mothers would be everywhere, taxes would go out the roof and God would slam this country to the ground. The US was founded on Christianity and we are slowly going away from it. Violence today covers the whole earth with the US leading the way, violent crimes are up in every major city. I think we have already sank pretty deep, doing away with marriage would finish us off.

There are many couple out here that live together perfectly content, without the hassle of a piece of paper! and it does not mean, that they would be anymore committed to each other, if t here were that piece of paper!
They have children, and are very happy together! the fact whether people stay together does not rest on a piece of paper! It is the relationship that they have that does that!
There are men and women out here that would not know how to be faithful, if it hit them over the head! How is a piece of [paper, going to change that? It won't! When two paople come together, out of love, and want to be together, they will stay together, because that is what they want to do! the children that they have will be taken care of, because that is what they want to do! I have known several people in my life time who have made that ultimate commitment, had children, and then split, because they couldn't handle being tied to one person! there just are not any guarantees in life!
You take each other on faith, or it is not going to work! And for that significant few, no relationship will succeed, regardless of what the circumstances! It is a fact of life!
So, yes, committed relationships will work without that piece of paper!!

I think men and women would choose to live together even if marriage did not exist. It might be in a more communal way than we know, but I believe that one of the basic human desires is to love. It does not necessarily have to be male/female. There are many who live together now without being married so I think that pretty much proves that marriage is not necessary to loving partnerships. Some but not all are based on child-rearing.

I've always contemplated this very thought: "what if all marriages were announced null and void, and only those that want to can renew their vows, would anyone actually renew them or are all couples secretly cursing the day they got united?!"
I think that humanity will be surprised at how many couples will call it quits and run in different directions!!

Marriage is far, far older than the Abrahamic religions, and many animals mate for life. Apes often have long-term 'partnerships', and I think it's safe to assume that their human cousins would too, even without marriage.

I don't think so, not after they've had children anyway. Why would the father stick around when he knows all the wife is going to do is complain and all the baby is going to do is cry when he doesn't have to.

The family is the first institution created by God, and it is necessary for human civilization in this present time.
