We are going to have a brunch the day after our reception with only immediate family and best friends...that is when we will open ours (should we receive any). If we were going to leave that night or the next morning for a honeymoon, we would wait until we would return to open them.

A lot of people have a present opening get together the following day or a few days later, depending on how it works out with the honeymoon. The again, a lot of couples have an opening during the beginning of their reception. Either way, I'd suggest opening the gifts for others to see, and then saving the cards(which can be loaded in cash) to be opened when the two of you are alone.

Best of luck, and congrats!

It depends on when the honeymoon is. Many people who are going on honeymoons the morning ater the wedding wait until they get back to opne the gifts. You have more time to enjoy it that way. But if your honeymoon is a couple days after the wedding then there is nothing wrong with opening the gifts the next day.

Usually gifts are sent to the home of the bride weeks before the wedding. She could open right away ( unless her fiance can be there within the next day or so to share opening) then she needs to write thank-you right away. No one should bring gifts to the wedding reception as it is not a time for opening gifts nor having to put someone else in charge of them when leaving for honeymoon

Well after my wedding, We opened our gifts right after eveyone went home after the wedding reception and after it was all over with, We went home and some imediate family came, and we all sat on the floor and opend our gifts then, And then off to the honeymoon, But the cards that were addressed to us, We kept, and on our honeymoon, me and my husband opened the cards in private, because the money helped us out a little while we were on honeymoon, Soo that might be the best time

I thought it was customary to wait until after you were married....like the next day.

I've heard tales of people opening gifts before the actual wedding from people who couldn't attend the wedding. I always thought that was wrong. Like opening Christmas gifts before Christmas.

actually, my parents made me ( I was 18.lol.) open the presents at the cake and punch reception at the church annex building. they said that it was rude not to open the presents and acknowledge them, it was our churchs customs. we had two receptions though, then it followed to an outdoor reception with a live band and alcohol dance floor. where people who all came to that gave presents to us and we also opened them right then. Since then, all of my friends have gotten married and divorced and NONE of them opened presents at the reception. i personally am starting to think that it is kinda rude that they ont, i mean i would like to see all of the neat things that they got.... I would do it again the same way, (but i'll be married forever..lol. so i wont get another chance..) good luck and happy marriage!

We opened our cards and gifts on the day after our wedding, after we had been and helped clear everything up and dinner was cooking, we sat down together with a bottle of champagne and opened all the cards, it was lovely!

NOT at the wedding. Some people may not have been able to afford an expensive present so you don't want to embarass them. Do it at home later.
