Different states have different ordinances. In California, the Motor Vehicle Code states that "The maximum speed limit on most highways is 65 MPH."
Note the qualifier, "most." Some highways have a posted speed limit of 70 MPH. This only occurs in rural areas.
I just got through reading an answer to another, related, question in which someone said that in Rhode Island, the maximum speed limit is 40 MPH. I don't know if this is true, but, Rhode Island is the smallest of the states.

The maximum in any state is 75.
Most of the states that allow 75 are in the western half of the country. In the eastern half, most are limited to 65 and some states, like California, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio have split speed limits for cars and trucks. ie: 70/55, 65/55, etc.
There are sections of California where cars are allowed to do 70mph, while trucks traveling on the same highway are only allowed to do 55mph. Doing northbound I-5 out of LA on a Friday night is a nightmare. The left lane is filled with people in cars that want to do 80 and the right lane is full of trucks cheating the system at 59. Talk about an "accident looking for a place to happen".... this is it!
Check the link below for all the state speed laws.
Drive safe!!!

The highways in Michigan are 70 mph but normally everybody does close to 90. I know everyone pushes it when their late one day I was coming close to being late for work and I had a company truck I say myself doing 85 in a 70. I know part of 1-94 at 9 mile it turns into 55 for a few miles but everyone speeds in Michigan.

they range from 45 miles per hour to 80-85 on most highways, but the speed limit goes down in towns. but, be carefull, in ohio, people on crotch rockets(sport bikes that can go over 160mph) will speed like crazy. like a week ago, one got pulled over for doing 136 in a 55.

it varies from state to state and even from county to county. The average is 65 mph, but some states are 75. I live in Idaho, some sections are 75 and some near towns are 65

Depends on the highway. On most roadways, it will be 55mph. Highways will have a range of between 55mph and 70 mph depending on the state.

Considering how wide their roads are over in USA in town speed limit is between 25 and 40 but even out on the freeway(motorway) it is 55mph. When they come over here with our narrow roads and narrow lane motorways it scares them
