Why does my hd tv only out put 480p on hdmi cable but 1080i on componant cable? my tv is new 42inch?

HD READY and it says its a 1080i.
this is all on my xbox 360 when you go to the settings its doing my head in my old 26inch output did 1080 i on both cables.

NOTE: i tryed to change it on xbox 360 and the most it only lets out is 480p with hdmi cable cant even select others. and with componant 1080i even still looks better with hdmi colour wise.

If it is a new TV call the TV's support line.
Perhaps the TV's EDID table (which defines what resolutions the TV supports) is wrong.
With the TV on, reboot the Xbox and try again, sometimes PCs (like the xbox) read the EDID only during reboot.
Make sure you connect the xbox ONLY with the HDMI cable.
