A church certainly has that right to do so. Whether it's morally wrong or not from a religious perspective, depends on the religion and it's teachings.
In my opinion, for a church that practices Christianity to *absolutely deny* anyone worship because of their past, is going against the very teachings of Christ they claim to hold dear.
Yet, a Church must protect all of it members (esp children from pedophiles). So if a Church must deny this person regular attendance for the safety of it's members, they should offer an alternative.
For example: Two services on Sunday and other special occasions.
If a Chruch is to follow the teachings Christ, they *must* find a way to minister to all those who seek it.

Same thing happened to Paul the Apostle if you remember... they were afraid of Him at first.
But both sides have a good point. I'm also pretty sure that most of these criminals, if not all, are far from Paul the Apostle. Therefore, I tend to favor the members in being cautious. Unless the Lord specifically reveals it to the person, I would do a separate service for the prisoners. Beware their presence. Why not play it safe? God also said be wise a serpents.

What was he convicted of? I don't know if this is the same church but there was one where the person who applied for membership was a convicted pedophile. I don't know if I have enough faith to stay in a church with someone I know hurt children, even if I believed that he was sincere. But I also don't think that I could vote no, I'd just leave the church and find another one. I have little kids, I have to protect them.

Well, in my opinion, I really think that saddens Jesus because He died so that everyone could go to Heaven. That includes every single person. So to be stopped from worshiping in the Lord's House by church members sounds like the Pharisees have taken over that Church and Jesus has been evicted.

It is definitely wrong. Who did Jesus preach to? The poor. The diseased. The criminals. These are people who need Jesus just as much as anyone else.
If we were all perfect, we wouldn't need a savior or a church to worship him in.

A church can advertise any form of belief they wish, even if it is hate-filled or exclusive. But they have the freedom to do so.
That doesn't mean that I or any other person have to hear them out.

Well it depends on the church. He should go to a church that will accept him.
It's just common sense and just that simple.

it depends on WHY they are doing this....and how sincere the prisoners are......
many prisoners are just looking for an easy way out of jail..and want a church to back them....

IN the first place, if they wanted to worship god, they wouldnt have done what they did. killing, and other crimes wouldnt be done if he feared god...so why give him the chance of worshipping him when all hes doing is trying to escape prison?
