why does my hd tv only out put 480p on hdmi cable but 1080i on componant cable? my tv is new 42inch?

HD READY and it says its a 1080i.
this is all on my xbox 360 when you go to the settings its doing my head in my old 26inch output did 1080 i on both cables.

NOTE: i tryed that with xbox and the most it only lets out is 480p with hdmi cable cant even select others. and with componant 1080i even still looks better with hdmi colour wise.

The problem is with your xbox NOT the TV.
Go to the setting under HDMI and specify the output to be 720p or 1080i.
