Do some countries teach comparative religion or theology classes in high school? Should we have a comparative religion class in the United States?

I think teaching kids ABOUT religion is just fine. It is a huge part of our culture. It's when they taught WHAT to believe is what makes me worry.

I'm really surprised the political persuasion of the teachers of your country is an issue, in the UK it certainly isn't one. I personally would like to see a country were the schools were all state funded, i would allow for religious schools but state run as in my country Scotland. This would stop the best students with rich parents leaving state schools and going to private schools. These bright pupils can help to bring up the less bright pupils with them.

Yes quit a few have religious classes thought school. In many countries the only education people get is through religious classes. It is probably only in the US where religion is not allowed to be taught in public schools.

Yes for your first question. Some countries have mandatory religious classes. Iran to name one.

CHAD : No, France has no religious classes in school. You can't find a more secular country in the world. What you have are religious schools who can add religious classes to the normal school curriculum. If they put those classes instead of the normal curriculum their diploma is not recognised by the state.

They have them in the US at some of the bigger (and I mean BIG) high schools in more diverse areas, like Seattle.

I think every area should have to have them available since it teaches acceptance of other people's ideas, and different ways of looking at the world, as well as increases thinking skills (the topic of what is and what isn't can wear on your brain) . As long as it's not done in a preachy way, it would be an excellent thing to implement.
