Thank you both. I am currently in counsling at my VA hospital both seem to be helping, the risperidone seems to make the nightmares less intense but the effexor has taken me from a more passive person to a more aggressive one. I have a counsling session on mon. So I will tell my counlser then. thanks again guys...

I have PTSD, too.. i can tell you that i did take respirdal (resperidone) for a while, and it mostly made me sluggish and lethargic. give it a few weeks for the side-effects to wear off, and if you are feeling to tired all the time tell your doc. he can lower the doseage.

i hope things work out. PTSD is an illness for which we need to be consistent about our therapy... i hope you work the therapy... and that you make a good recovery.. take care.

my ex -finance started taking effexor and tried to kill himself 3 weeks later. When that happened I did some research and found alot of similiar stories. Plus it is black-boxed because of it's suicide rating. I don't know why u have ptsd if u were are in the military, I am not but went through something tramatic and I went on Paxil it was great but coming off it made me deeply depressed. I recommend Celexa 40 mg and counseling. I think it's great your helping yourself, counseling defintely helps if u want it to. Hope I helped, best of luck to u.

i havent been on risperidone but i have been on effexor for 6 years now.i must say it helped me alot in the early days.although now,my depression has almost gone yet i cant get off them.the worst thing about this drug,i think, is the withdrawal, even if a dose is missed, for me,i get symptoms such as dizzyness,a drunk feeling, headaches, blurred vision and lack of concentration.although it probably saved my life its helped in making it worse as well.i would try and make sure you get off them as soon as you feel able because the longer you are on them, the harder it is to get off.i hope you can find a way out of your P.T.S.D and wish you luck on the road to recovery
