My DSM520 connects just fine to the D-Link media server on my PC but after 15 to 20 minutes it loses connection to media server. I cannot figure out why. PC is running Windows XP SP2. Have turned off firewall to be sure that is not the problem. I tested the same DSM520 connecting to a laptop PC running XP SP2 and does not have the disconnect problem. In fact laptop will go into hibernation and DSM520 will pick up video stream where it was left off when laptop is taken out of hibernation without losing connection. I cannot figure out what is the difference between the two PCs.

I should have indicated that I am testing this using wired connection so wireless is out of the picture. I have ensured the microsoft firewall is permitting the DSM and also using Mcafee it too is allowing the DSM. But I have also turned them off just to be sure.

Check ALL firewalls. (maybe your PC has more than one; the built-in from Microsoft and another one). Norton is notorious for blocking video streaming. The easiest solution is to NOT block the firewall, but make all devices trusted devices.

Of course, not all wireless adapters are made equal. Depending on the position of your PC and the wireless used, maybe there are more lost packets which causes disconnection.

You can also try transmitting in a different wireless channel. Maybe there is too much interference on the existing channel, which causes the transmission to fail.
