or anything related to God when something happens? Like "what the hell?" or "Jeeeeees-us!" or "God damn it"? I'm not trying to get smart or anything, but if you do and you don't believe in it then why say it? Just curious... and please be nice... :)

I know it's a sin to curse or use God's or Jesus's name in vain, but it's just a question.

lol Kinda reminds me of the first blind friend I ever had in college. The first time he said "See ya later!" I felt so .... funny. That was weird coming from a blind guy.

Chill out. I've matured quite a bit since then. I realize it is a euphemism.

sure - some do, some don't. just like some ppl who are religious do & some don't. for some, they're just phrases that come out as a reflex when something happens - the phrase itself doesn't have a religious meaning to them or anything, it's just another expression that some ppl (atheist or otherwise) may pick up & start using themselves due to hearing it used in over & over everyday life. (Just like other commonly used expressions, like 'cool' or 'isn't that great'. if everyone around you is saying something, it might make its way into the way you talk, too, just because).

also, like you said, it's supposed to be wrong in christianity to say certain things in vain, so I would think if anyone didn't use phrases like that, it would be religious ppl.

It's built into the conversational fabric of certain societies. I remember a time when no one said "Jesus" as a remark in a casual conversation and it wasn't that long ago. I don't think it has anything to due with religion. Why do religious people say it if they believe it to be wrong? I don't make a habit of saying either. Me: Buddhist

I've been known to do it, not because I have any religious feelings but because those words are commonly used to express anger, surprise, annoyance. The feeling I am trying to convey is more important than the particular words I use, I am only using the words most used in the English language for that.

Sometimes. And because we hear it everyday it becomes second nature to use. Dosn't mean we believe. Really, Wouldn't it be worse if we DID believe and still talked that way? I try not to use it that much, but almost everybody says oh my god once in a while.

I saw all kinds of phrases and words which are based on christian culture.

To describe sex i say "heaven" i obvisouly dont believe in christianity but i find the words can be used as metaphors.

Lots of Atheist Musicians have lyrics which sound almost like scripture but are just used for there poetic structure.

They shouldn't since they don't believe that God exists, but because mostly everyone in our soctey says those phrases, regardless of their beliefs, Atheists tend to get used to the phrases and once in a while use them

ATHEISTS ARE HUMAN!!

Yes. It is not the Atheist's fault that half of the expletives in English are religiously derived. Semantically, it's no different than saying "oh ****."

Ponder that the next time you're about to say "oh my god."

These interjections are simply common in the english language. Like Earle said, you are more likely to use expressions that you grew up around.

Using common phrases has very little to do with religious belief.

I don't use these expressions. When i became an atheist,i realized that there expressions were not good or real to speak. So i stopped speaking these words.
I used to speak "Oh,my "god"" and "What the hell..." a lot, before becoming an atheist, but i stopped speaking them,fortunately...lol
