In October I am going to start running a mile every day. My goal is 3 pounds a week but I was wondering is that healthy. Because I want to lose at least 50 pounds be the end of December but 3*13=39 but I'll probally lose more pounds if it comes to that . Thanks for answering.

Try running 75 steps and walking 50 BEFORE you just start out running. I think it's great that you realize you need to lose weight and doing it in a healthy way is much better than UNhealthy. IF you do it the healthy way then your rewards will be much more successful in keeping it off. You must understand that it's a lifestyle change, NOT a diet persay. Eating healthy and in moderation is the key along with excersise. Final note: To lose almost 40lbs. by Dec. is NOT healthy at all. Just take your time and you'll be fine. If you want something, eat it, just half of what you normally would. In moderation is really the key.

Hey there Dakotah!
First of all I think its great that your trying to get in shape and achieve a healthy weight!

I was almost about 170 pounds when I was your age and I was also short so i didn't look so good, but I tried what your doing and it worked great!

I went on a diet with my mom, we did weight watchers points plan and I would definatly recommend it. Its a really easy diet where you get a certain amount of points depending on your weight and you can eat whatever you want as long as you don't go over your limit. You also get a points book where it listed hundreds of foods and how many points there were.

Anyways, you should check weight watchers out its a realty great program and they also have weekly meetings and private weigh ins and give inspirational talk!

I lost around 2-3 pounds a week and you can tell a difference in the way you look fast! Now I'm around 160 and 5,7 and look a lot better but when I was done weight watchers I had lost 15-20 pounds.

The mile a day thing will work great along with a diet, it will shed a lot of extra weight. However I would stick with walking because running wont work as good because it will just build up muscle under fat while walking actually burns more fat (though you would think the opposite)

However weight watchers costs about 7$ or more every weigh in so I would ask your mother or father to do it with you for extra support and so you don't have to pay for it yourself. :)

Anyways, good luck I hope you achieve your goal sorry for the long reply but I hope It helps, just stay positive and don't loose hope!

Weight can really be a problem for most teens, especially with all the fast food stuff these days. Eat healthy and excersice (sit-ups, push-ups, lunges) walking is a great way to get in shape because it is low impact. At most high schools they have physical education classes that are fun like aerobics this can really help if you want to lose weight. Think high cardio(raising your heart rate and low impact (less strain on your joints). I hope this helps and try to stay fit ok. Best of luck.

If you like to play Xbox or play station You can get the Dance Dance Revolution game or the WII is phyically active. An other thing that would be good for you is take to your mom about doing the Dr. Berstien diet. It is hard to stick too but if you do it will be the best thing for you. It is doctor supervised and i know personally alot of people that it has worked for.

The ideal amount of weight loss per week is 1-2 pounds, Do not overdo it since fast weight loss might mean losing your muscle, too.
