AH but you see, there are different kind of fats: Saturated, and unsaturated.
Saturated fats make you fat, because your body can only store them for later use.
Unsaturated fats (such as those in nuts), can be used by your body more readily, and can actually help you to lose weight, and even lower your cholesterol.
I aim to get about 50gms of unsaturated fats in per day myself, which I get mostly from taking spoonfuls of Flax seed oil (ew lol).
Also, nuts have a lot of protein, which your body needs for muscle growth. If you're on a strict diet, your body is going to need as much extra protein as it can get as you're probably going to be starving it.
More protein in your body means that your body will learn that it's not so important to store so much fat, as you are regularly getting the protein it needs. So your muscles can get bigger, and you waist gets slimmer. AND of course muscles weigh more than fat, so even though you may not be losing as much weight, you will look slimmer, and that's what you're really after right? :D
