“Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.

I agree with bearcub.

Till a person is spiritually and psychologically ready to hear a truth about himself or about God, telling him about it doesn't do any good.

The pearls are your insights and truths about God. The pig is the part of the listener that has no concept about what to do with pearls, so he just walks over it, unknowing.

We might take time to reflect about the little porker in all of us, that doesn't realize when pearls of wisdom come our way.

When we go out and tell People about Jesus so they can Hear the Gospel, if they Accept, they get Saved.

After your Saved, YOU decide how Close you want to Walk with GOD. Pearls can help People who are Saved, GROW in the Word of GOD.

If you Throw those Pearls to People who don't want knothing to do with Jesus, then they (depends on the person) can also use what you say (Pearls) to Attack You, and you Really don't need that as a Child of GOD.

Just tell those pigs bout' Jesus and let it go at that.
You did your Job!

yes, I have done that,
(thrown Pearls and got Attacked),
but then I got Smart as a Child of GOD)

"Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." (Matthew 7:6).

Of course, these words of Jesus are allegorical. I doubt that any were literally casting pearls before swine. The meaning is pretty simple to figure out; "Do not persist in offering what is sacred or of value to those who have no appreciation for it, because your gift will not only become contaminated and be despised, your generous efforts could also be rebuffed and perhaps even openly attacked."

The "dogs" and "swine" here stand for the unappreciative and worldly; unappreciative and uncaring men and women who belittle the value of what is offered to them. "That which is holy" would be the meat offered in sacrifice to God. A dog could care less whether it came from the altar or the garbage. The swine have no appreciation for either the beauty nor the value of the pearls under their feet.

Your life, time, energy, opportunities and abilities are God's pearls. They're His! You and I are merely His stewards overseeing His possessions (1 Corinthians 6:19,20; 4:1,2; 1 Peter 4:8-11). We must show discernment as to what use we make of God's possessions. It is possible to waste them either by using them when we should not as well as not using them when we should.

Holy things were to be kept holy. Dogs and pigs have no comprehension of what is or is not holy. Neither can they be greatful to receive that which is holy. If someone refuses to believe the Word of God, regardless of your testimony and the evidence, then you are wasting your time and energy. Why continue to preach to them the truth? Leave it all in God's hands and pray for their souls. Shake the dust from your feet and go somewhere else with the Gospel.

Dear Xplorer,

I believe the verse means that you should not go into a tavern or bar and attempt to preach the Gospel to those who are there....or a crack house and attempt to share the Gospel with the group smoking drugs......or a house of prostitution and attempt to preach the Gospel to the people there.

"Pigs" or "swine" picture unsaved man in the Bible. God is telling us not to go into the hogpen (whatever sin is being practiced) but wait until the individual is not in their "element", ie., sin, whether it be alcohol, drugs, adultery, etc. Wait until you can present the Gospel to the individual when he/she is not actually "in" the sin and not in a group.

When Jesus dealt with people, it was usually one on one.

It means dont waste your breath or valueable time on those before you even speak you know they wont receive what you must say. Its a wisdom key. He, Jesus is saying use wisdom before you speak with someone on matters that are holy. Its like why tell Adolf Hitler that loving one another is the best way. That killing innocent people is wrong. You know he was so gone he wouldnt receive what your saying. So basically its refering to realizing that watch who you speak with for they may not even receive what you say

What is HOLY belongs to God. Take care of what he has given you being a good steward. Don't spend your time and money assocoating with evil.(pigs) The evil ones will take what you have and not give you a second thought.

"It is counter-productive to try to teach the treasures of Biblical truth to those who reject and ridicule the Scriptures. Their hearts must first be prepared by the Holy Spirit, supplemented by a gracious presentation of Christian evidences (Acts 17:15-34)."

It's like when my sister worked so hard getting the knack of making Divinity candy. She had all the pieces out cooling, when along came my brother and cousin. They ate almost every piece, and afterward said that they didn't really like divinity. I still don't know why she didn't beat them with the pan!
