I am not familiar with normal school ages in your country, but in the U.S. to be in college at 16 would mean he is a pretty good student.

Assuming you are talking 10 UK pounds, this would be like a person in the US lasting a week on less than $5 which is a very small amount of money.

If your son is only 16 and in college you should be celebrating and doing all you can to help him with his academics so that he doesnt have to work. Isnt that very young? I think parents should help their children through college and then they will be on their own. There are a lot of expenses and that doesnt seem like a lot ( 5 pounds) If you support him then he will do well and get a great job and then you can relax

Make sure he knows that he can't keep spending money. Keep Track of how much money he gets from you, and tell him that at some point, he needs to pay you back at least half, or make another deal like that, I only have a 12 year old but she is always looking for cash, she gets 10$ a week. So remember to keep how much money your son spends and takes limited. Hope this helps --Good Luck :)

Provide him with the essentials but explain to him he has started college and all 16 year olds have to make sacrifices, but this will pay off in a few years time when he has good job. Tell him £5.00 is his limit if he wants more he will have to get a part time job and earn his luxuries.

Good Luck

If your son is in "college" at 16,he is a very smart young man.
Encourage him to get a partime job but don't let it interfere with his studies. That is most important.
5 pounds per week is not a whole lot of spending money. You should be proud of him and help him as much as you can.I would say spending 5 pounds is not being wasteful with money.I'm sure one day he will repay you tenfold in many ways.

Tell him to get a job. Purchase a food/book plan so he has no access to cash ... And don't put an extravagant amount in the account, just the bare minimum. If he want good food... a job would pay for it,

5 pounds? That not very much money for a sixteen year old, or anyone else for that matter, to make it through 7 days.

tell him if he wants to earn money he needs to help around the house or do some yard work. as long as you keep giving him the money he will keep expecting it for nothing i know i did it with my own daughter. my oldest will help when she needs money but my youngest keeps saying give me give me i had to learn the hard way. and that was thousands to late. so good luck

Provide for his needs and beyond that he would need to get a part time job for extra spending money.

Yes....tell him to get a part time job.
My kids have been doing weekend work since they were 14.
He then earns his own money which in its self brings responsibility for wasting it!!!!!
