In terms of power, the PS3 is over twice as powerful as the 360, the ps3 has 9 cores, not one (8 SPE's and 1 PPE) while the 360 has 3 cores. The PS3 can also render textures just as well or even better than the xbox 360, as it can pool the Cell Processor's RAM into the RSX GPU.
Speaking of technical prowess, the PS3 is the best in terms of shading, lighting, and overall processing. (that means in every subject) The xbox 360 is basically running on only general purpose processing, which is fine for an OS or basic programs, but when it comes down to rendering CGI in real time, the 360 can't do that, ONLY the Playstation 3 can.
Anyways, as far as games go, the PS3 has a much more diverse library in the near future than the 360 does. Most of the xbox 360's major titles are shooters, while the PS3 focuses more on RPG's and action adventure. Such games coming only for the PS3 are Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, LittleBigPlanet, Haze, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, White Knight Story, Heavy Rain, Afrika, etc.
Want Features? the ps3 has them-
*Blu Ray- The next generation disc medium which can store up to 50GB (100GB in experimental models) The extra space allows game developers to make large responsive environments, complex artificial intelegance, HD video and audio, etc. without compression. (the xbox 360 only uses DVD which has a maximum capacity of 8.5GB.)
*Other operating systems- The ps3 can get different operating systems installed, such as Linux, allowing it to be an alternative computer, and you can install many diferent programs.
*Web browser- The ps3 has a decent web browser, which you can go to many different web sites with, it does have basic flash updates, but it does need to be improved upon, including in java, though this can be fixed easily via a firmware upgrade. Many popular sites like myspace and youtube are accessable though.
*Play TV- Pretty much Tivo for your ps3, a tuner that you can record things with. Though it has only been announced to launch in Europe so far.
*Interchangeable hard drive- This pretty much means you can change the size of your hard drive with any hard drive so you can store more things.
*Built in wifi- With the xbox 360 you have to buy a wifi adapter for $100, this comes standard in the PS3.
*Free Online- Self Described.
*Playstation Home- Playstation home is an interactive community of ps3 users where you can play games or meet up with friends and hang out at your virtual home and hang outs, as well as stream live media(releasing early 2008, and is FREE)

i love my ps3. the 360 would be decent if it wasnt so unreliable. i dont care how good the games are, i am not buying a system again that broke twice on me before. and whenever people talk about all the great must have 360 games, did you ever notice they are all first person shooters. now i will admit, when i got resistance i became a fan of fps, but come on, thats all the 360 has. so yes, i think the ps3 is better. and i dont care what people say about the specs of each system. what i do know is that the amount of sound in heavenly sword would not fit on a 360 disc. thats just sound. so when people ever say the 360 has better graphics i laugh. they are looking at second gen 360 games vs. first gen ps3 games. and i think the ps3 is better still.

not true.. ppl have always been wanting the 360 not only because its a beast but also cuz ps3 is yucky!
okay seriously tho...
Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category.
Price: This is obvious; the XBOX 360 core was only $299. The PS3 was around $499 for the 20GB version. It comes with a hard drive, but you don’t need a hard drive to enjoy a lot of great games on the 360 so I think it’s fair to compare both core systems.
Performance: On paper, the PS3 is more powerful. In REALITY, it’s quite inferior to the 360. Without getting into too many details, the three general-purpose CPU’s the xbox360 has are currently FAR easier to take advantage of than the SPU’s on the PS3. I suspect a few years down the road some high budget, first party PS3 exclusive titles will come out that really take advantage of the SPU’s and do things the XBOX 360 can’t, but I don’t think the console is worth buying based on this speculation (for some it will be though, we'll have to wait and see how these games turn out).
Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing. I can’t get into details but the same vertex shader will run much slower on the PS3 than the XBOX 360. The 360 also has a clever new way rendering high definition anti aliased back buffers. To accomplish the same effect on PS3 is prohibitively expensive. For this reason I think many games will have no choice but to run in non-HD resolutions on the PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality.
Game Selection: The XBOX 360 has a huge head start here. 1 year is an eternity in gaming. Almost all multi-platform developers have made the XBOX 360 their primary platform due to timing of release-to-market, this means the games will look and perform better on the 360. The PS3 versions will be ports of the 360 versions. (The opposite was true for XBOX 1 vs. PS2). The XBOX 360 is also far faster to develop for due to better development tools (massively popular Visual Studio .NET vs. proprietary, buggy PS3 compiler and debugger), better documentation, and easier architecture (3 general purpose CPU’s vs. 8 specialized processors that require DMA). Timing has also caused all next-gen middleware developers to make XBOX 360 their primary platform, and they will ‘add ps3 support’ as needed. This support will probably be inferior to the XBOX 360’s due to manpower and more importantly, demand. It’s this catch-22 now that will continue to drive the 360 forward and hold PS3 back.
The other obvious point here is that right now the Xbox360 already has a very impressive line-up of titles on store shelves; the Ps3, and has virtually nothing of interest.
Hope I Helped!
Live: Microsoft’s online support with XBOX1 was phenomenal. They built in-house experience, user base, facilities, $$ commitment from executive level (since it proved successful), and most importantly, feedback from 100,000s of XBOX Live subscribers. Playstation 2’s online support sucked. They are now playing catch-up, trying to emulate Xbox’s model. But they had their hands tied just trying to make the PS3 work, it was incredibly ambitious (blu-ray etc.). I haven’t seen it yet, but I seriously doubt the quality will be anywhere to the level of XBOX 360.

ps3 is BETTER FOR MANY MANY reasons
i'll list some of the reasons
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: 3% hardware failure
- rumble returns in spring 2008
- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $599
60gb: $499
xbox 360(premium)- $399 (if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars)

ok here are the specs of each. PS3 is a great machine. it has advanced capabilities and the games that it has are great. The 360 has a little edge over the PS3 however. It can render textures a bit better than PS3 can. That means the look of walls and cracks and what not. The 360 has 3 cores that specialize in that stuff while the PS3 only has 1 i think. overall they are pretty equal. its just a matter of taking advantage of each systems capabilities. I have a PS3 and love it.

Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 3%.
Let's compare them
PS3 has 7+1 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual DVD (9.5 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. To estimate its power (roughly) - take 8600 nvidia graphics card, multiply it by 2 - get a result, still PS3 stronger, because 8600 Ultra runs on 400 Mhz and RSX runs on 550 Mhz.
PS3 has a chip from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This card is on sale for PC. The price is around 350$.
Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.
Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and other great exclusives. Here is the great link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
PS3 online world will be free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.
Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years.
I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it.
