First of all, Pedro the Guatamalen from Stuart Florida didnt pay taxes for 11 years....Now ICE has raided McDonalds in the Reno area for Identity theft...they got 56 people in that raid...Difference between those in Reno and Pedro is that those in Reno used forged documents...so here's the question...If they were using forged documents, were they really paying taxes? In my opinion, they werent...in fact they were breaking IRS laws as well as being here illegally. working illegally, as well as breaking laws in regards to identity theft...These are not scattered cases people...this is rampant, and the true victims of this are the american taxpayers...

kymveliz- So your saying that Illegals dont have a personal responsibility to follow the laws? Of course the employers need to be penalized, but Illegals are just as responsible to follow the laws of the land

Dar, I agree...and the thing that gets me is that pro groups try to put the face of humans on this issue...thing is, they are putting the wrong faces on it...it should be the faces of Americans....those who end up picking up the tab....

Rabid Frog- True..but shouldnt the SSA be able to help fight against mis-matched SSN #'s to help fight identity theft better? Same thing for the IRS, why cant they give info linking the #'s as to help track down these lawbreakers? My point here, is that our OWN government is failing the taxpayers by their lack of attention to these details...

Identity theft is a felony for a reason.
They were stealing whatever else they were doing. And if they used forged documents, do you think they claimed the 'proper' amount of dependants?
We subsidize those who are poor, whether they pay taxes or not. They are not able to pay the $10,000 per child per year it costs to educate children, for example, and are more able to get free birth care etc etc. The taxes in SS don't begin to cover the financial drain much less the degregation of education and health care to our own people. That is why we limit how many can come.

The IRS's job is not to enforce immigration laws but it will notify the employer that the Social Security Number that was used is a "no match", after that it is the responsibility of that employer to fix the problem. If enforcement would concentrate on employers more then much could be done to slow or stop the flow of illegal immigrants.
Its hard to say if those workers were paying taxes with their forged documents but in such cases where they find that an employer was hiring illegal labor the IRS should do an immediate audit of their tax history to assure that any and all taxes were paid on those employees as well as involving ICE, lets take away some of the bonuses of hiring illegals. As for Pedro he admitted to tax evasion and will pay the price for his actions.
EDIT: Yes Smartazz_citizen you are so right they should but you can bet your little booties that the pro group will never allow that to happen without a huge fight in every court in the land including the supreme court concerning "privacy", if the IRS and the SSA would cooperate with law enforcement this issue would likely end.

No they aren't they are screwing over whoever they stole the ssn from
example after I lost my business (couldn't compete in the paint and drywall market wonder why) I got a job at 20 per hour that was about 2 years ago six months ago I get a letter from DES I owe them 5700 dollars when I went in I found out three others were using my ssn and one had been getting food stamps for over 1.5 years well they new it was fraud because every ones hours came to a little over 200 a week there's only 168 possible however they locked my bank account I just finished the legal bout and got my money back however after talking to the IRS at the end of the year I'm gonna be going through it all over again because I make 23 an hour however they expect taxes on about 57 an hour when you add in the others who are no longer using mine thank god but still I have four kids and a wife you wanna know about getting screwed there ya go no they don't pay taxes 57 an hour is an all together different tax bracket.

You are 100% correct, and I too, feel the same way. The fact is, people are simply too ignorant to understand this concept and see the true blacklash. Illegals are coming over by the day, taking our jobs and not only occupying our land, but destroying it. We are paying for them to be here, and giving them a foot in the world, that we can't give ourself. I would love free education, and free healthcare. I work hard and can't afford to be an american at this point. Those who are in favor of the illegal movement are one of two things, owners of companies, or currently on welfare and do not work to make a sound living. This country is becoming a toilet full of sh** and it's time for a good flushing! Also, I've posted my opinions on this issue time and time again, and they keep getting removed. This is a perfect example of ignorance once again. If somebody doesn't agree with the point you are attempting to make, they remove it rather then trying to understand it. Perhaps pro-illegals would see what's actually going on around them if they weren't so closed minded, and blinded to it! Good luck people!

The social security number, whether real or "stolen" is a tax payer identification number. The employer would be witholding taxes and sending it to the IRS reagrdless of the legal status of the employee. The employee would be unlikely to file a tax return as it would increase the chance that the fraud would be caught. There would be taxes paid however and legal taxpayers would not be affected. Pedro, on the other hand would be affecting taxpayers because he did npt pay any taxes at all.

of course not! They are either using forged documents or they are paid under the table.
Did you hear about the illegal that had been here for 16 years and had saved all his money to buy property back in Mexico. As he crossed the border to return to Mexico, with his bag of $59,000 cash it was confiscated - initially because it was more that the $10,000 maximum. Now the IRS is after him for back taxes since he never paid any. ICE is also after him for being in the country illegally. This is a good example of our government going after someone who broke several laws!

There is no way to truly know. But, there is a huge rise in taxes from "incorrect" ss#s.
Starting in the late 1980's, the Social Security Administration received a flood of W-2 earnings reports with incorrect - sometimes simply fictitious - Social Security numbers. It stashed them in what it calls the "earnings suspense file" in the hope that someday it would figure out whom they belonged to.
The file has been mushrooming ever since: $189 billion worth of wages ended up recorded in the suspense file over the 1990's, two and a half times the amount of the 1980's.
In the current decade, the file is growing, on average, by more than $50 billion a year, generating $6 billion to $7 billion in Social Security tax revenue and about $1.5 billion in Medicare taxes.
In 2002 alone, the last year with figures released by the Social Security Administration, nine million W-2's with incorrect Social Security numbers landed in the suspense file, accounting for $56 billion in earnings, or about 1.5 percent of total reported wages.
Social Security officials do not know what fraction of the suspense file corresponds to the earnings of illegal immigrants. But they suspect that the portion is significant.

For me not paying their fair share of taxes is only a symptom of the bigger problem of who shall decide our immigration policy . I say we the citizens of the USA have the right to have our immigration laws funded and enforced not the illegals no matter how many, hard working, or well intended

This is true but then believe it or not there are Americans out there who don't want to work and who will offer to SELL illegal aliens their ss# so they don't have to work but can still do taxes. I know for a fact this is true as I have seen it with my own two eyes!
No I am not saying that they dont have to follow the laws I am just saying that there are alot of U.S. citizens who are just as bad. They have also bought fake ss#s to skip out on child support.
