Everyone must face their own mortality. The ultimate betrayal. For many that is a very frightening thing. Everyone loves life when life is good or even barely tolerable. As long as the will to live is there we have it made. Once we decide we are done then it is done.

We say it with an if rather than a when because people have a sub-concious desire to believe that they are immortal. It is like believing in God (don't assault me here, I'm not trying to make anyone mad) - a lot of people wonder why people still believe in god, and for some believers it is a subconcious desire to have something or someone waiting for them after death.

Because usually people are talking about if they die at a particular point of time. Life if I die before, or after, or tomorrow, today, etc, etc.

Death is something that not a single person has ever avoided.

Because the mortality of person who still lives can be seen as a hypothesis which hasn’t been disproved yet. So, until proven wrong, you’re immortal.

Of course that’s silly, but that’s a way of looking at it.
