Yes, we know we will be old and wrinkly one day. Are you assuming we do not know this?
Once I get old, I'll have more to worry about than some colourful wrinkles.

Just to point out:
I know more things than wrinkles ruin a tattoo. I was just talking about wrinkles!!!!!
Please do not assume I have not thought about the future. I am clever enough not to get one on a place that might be visable and stop me being what I want to be.
I know that pregnancy doesn't just affect the stomach area.
Finally: I AM NOT THICK! Do you not realise I have thought about these things!
Thank you to the people who were nice though.

Thank you A Silent Reminder
And I find that too. I researched everything I could before getting one, including what can happen after you get one.

I agree with you. I hate the redundant question "Are you still going to want it when you're 80"? My answer is YES. I don't get my tattoos as a fashion accessory, and I don't think lightly about them. The tattoos I have symbolize a time or a person in my life. I know they will get wrinkly and saggy with time. But EVERYONE, whether you have tattoos or not, is going to look like crap when they are 80, I don't care who you are. Just those of us with ink will be a little more decorated. ;)

I am 16 years old, and have three tattoos, one of which i am going to get covered up very very soon. I was/still am a huge tattoo enthusiast but please PLEASE do not get one yet ! 2 of my tattoos are very special to me and i considered them both for a year (I had a 1 year want rule) but now I realized I should have waited, put more thought into where it would go, looked at more artists (not that mine were bad, i just should have seen who was better/specialized in what). Tattoo's are great and i fully support them but wait a bit longer. You still have tons of time to get it done, your whole life in fact. what happens if you realize 5 or 6 years from now that you don't want to be a mason anymore? If two years from now when you're 18 you still want this tattoo and you're ready to live with it for another 70 or so years, then go for it. These aren't things that should be taken lightly because they are super permanently permanent. Even tattoo removal surgeries don't always work.

Sparkle, I don't know how old you are but it's not just OLD age that can ruin the looks of a tattoo. Women really need to be thoughtful about what and where they put tattoos. Why? Because if you decide to have a family, pregnancy does quite a number on your body. No amount of exercise will take away all the effects of your skin stretching for a baby. Think that just means the tummy area then you are dead wrong.
Of course sagging and bagging isn't the only issue, changing your mind about what you want to have etched into your body is another big thing to consider. I tend to think that people should wait until 22 or 23 to make this kind of decision and get past the bulk of their impulsive years. One way to avoid making the wrong choice on what to put on your body would be to wait at least three months from the initial wanting to the getting.
Final piece of advice - unless you plan on working in an industry that embraces such forms of individualt expression (these can be few and far between depending on where you live) - consider getting your tattoo someplace that regular work clothes would cover. Let's face it if you and one other person are the top picks of a big firm and you have tattoos showing while the other person doesn't - they will probably be picked because of being able to look more the roll.
Ultimately to answer your question... I would venture a guess that most young people don't think about these issues at all when they get a tattoo. Just like with piercings etc. young people can be impulsive and have the 'I have to have it now' syndrome. That's part of the nature of being young, just as telling a young person to slow down and think things through is part of being more mature and having experienced more of life.
I won't fault you for following the nature of your age, if you don't fault me for following the nature of mine. ;)

Course not. If you're old enough to get a tattoo, then youre old enough to know that age brings wrinkles.
Age restrictions are there cos most of these things are a fad. My son has some tattoos and I paid for them, but not till he was 18.

whats wrong with getting a tattoo when your young? that just means that you'll have more time to enjoy it and show it off! i cant wait till im of age so i can get one! it hurts though, doesnt it?
colourful wrinkles, i like it, and yes thats very true, we will have more to worry about, and besides, if you get it in a place that will be covered a lot ie back or ankle or somewhere else... then you wont have to look at your coloured wrinkles! lol!
are you getting one or something? if you are good luck with it! my friend got one and its so cool!

Heh Colorful wrinkles. That made me laugh.
I think that some of the people who get tattooed young do even more research than people of age. I've known several teenagers who look into it for years before getting it done, whereas some people of age just do it on a whim because they can.
Just my thoughts, have a star.

I don't think its necessarily the wrinkles, its that when we age parts of our bodies that used to be tight, are not anymore even if we are in really great shape. Thats just a fact of getting older and so for example if one got a tattoo on thier upper arm it may become distorted with time ect.

The way I look at it is, yeah I know my ink isn't gonna look awesome forever. But at least I'll have some awesome stories to tell my grandchildren.
I'd rather do it now, then regret ever experiencing it my enitre life.
