You can live for a long time being depressed, but it's half a life. A life without color. Talking to someone or taking pills doesn't always solve the problem but it can help. It's a challenge. But you can live with depression on your own without any of those things. But again, it won't be a full life. You will just go through the motions and fear the day in which you will snap in two like a rubber band.

Eat healthy, exercise regularly (natural feel good endorphin release), enforce normalized sleep schedule, socialize. You can try Omega 3 fatty acid fish pills. There's some legitimate science showing efficacy for some. You need to take 1000-3000mg of the EPA ingredient to possibly have a positive effect. That's two to nine pills a day depending on the brand and level needed. It only takes a few days to a week to start working if it's gonna work for you.

Talking to people generally is THE best way to deal with depression, especially if it is situational. If you continue to feel depressed, and particularly if it worsens, then you need to flip a coin and decide on therapy or medication, or better yet, both. Isolation is a symptom of depression. It is not the 'cure.'

It is definately possible to recover from depression without pills. However, you do have to talk to someone. If you don't feel comfortable talking to a professional such as your family doctor or a psychologist, then at least talk to a close friend or family member. Keeping your feelings bottled up inside is only going to make things worse. If you don't have anyone close to you that you can trust, there are many agencies available that have local crisis lines.
I wish you the best of luck, and remember that it is possible to recover from depression.

There are 3 natural dietary supplements that have actual clinical reserach studies to prove they work for depression - inositol, fish oil (onega-3) and folic acid (basically a B vitamin).

The links beow explain how to take them, eactly what they are and why they are safe, and links to the research so you can see there is real medical evidence for these supplements.

The other thing that helps is daily execise - this can be ust a half hour walk, but an hour is better. Something more active like a bicycle ride is better still. Good luck. I have also had depression and I know what hell it can be.

Theres alot of good points that others have mentioned some of these ppl have been through the same & for that reason could be better qualified to help .....however why restrict the chances of you getting well again by limiting the help available, I think getting help albeit a temporary fix from pills whilst talking to ppl trained to help should be something you do as well as other things not instead, you do really want to get better dont you ?

You could read some self help books and try to implement some of the cognitive behavioral therapy skills into your life. I don't have a particular suggestion as to what book(s) because I have done both routes you don't wish to utilize. I do not see a counselor currently because I use the behavioral skills I have already learned, but I would go back if those skills stopped working in my life. Good luck to you.

I've been through a very severe depression, and I've come out of it stronger, better, and more appreciative.
You will get through it.
Trust me. It takes time.
You don't need pills. You need to fix the problem, and although that may seem impossible, make baby steps at fixing little things. Work on yourself, but know that you are a good person, with a lot to offer.
Take care - you'll do it.

Well, if you are looking to solve this problem youself, I would go to this site, as you do have access to a computer:http://counsellingresource.com/......see if there is something there that can help you, maybe talking to others...You can probably remain anonymous, and this would make you feel better, and see what others do to feel better also. I pray to God through Jesus, that you will feel better, and that is the best healer of all

Generic antidepressants are cheap. I don't know why you would want to keep being miserable when an antidepressant would change things in 2 weeks.

If it's a brain chemistry thing, talking won't help.
