You tell him, plain and simple. But you put your VALUES in there first. You tell him to have sex after he's married, you tell him about protection if he won't wait until married, so he at least does not pass along disease and does not have unwanted children. Then you just explain what happens and let him ask questions. You should have told him all this at age 8!!. He probably knows more than you do from his friends but wants to confirm details with you.

Seriously? Tell him the truth and then explain what the possible consequences are. Make sure he understands human anatomy and doesn't have any of those stupid "she can't get pregnant if..." ideas that get so many girls pregnant. And talk about respect, both for the girl and for himself. And do your best to get him to wait until he's at least out of high school. Every birth control method can fail and a teen pregnancy could ruin his life as well.

You tell him the truth, at 16 i suspect he knows already and is just seeing how honest you can/will be with him. Make sure to encorperate the need for safe sex in there as well. Offer to either buy him supplies or give him the money to prepare himself.

He probably already knows how.
My sons took great delight in asking me,
I called their uncle and their dad,
told them that the boys had questions
that only a man can explain.
I heard the boys laughing a few days later,
I don't know WHAT they told the kids,
but it must have been a chuckle
from the kids' point of view.

You need to answer all of his questions as best you can and emphasize that it is a big decision, a big responsibility, and how to protect himself if he chooses to have sex. Let him know that he can always come to you, no matter what.
Good job, Mom...you must have built a good foundation and a trusting relationship...not every kid feels comfortable enough to ask their parents about sex.

You need to educate him on sex ed, not tell him to go out and have sex. Unless your ready to be a grand father. As to when to have sex, tell him to wait until marriage.

He will probably have sex regardless if you tell him or not. Just make sure he knows about condoms.
