I have a 5 year old Beauceron (french cattle dog). My sister raised her, but can no longer take care of her. When I take her to the park, she naturally sniffs out rabbits, and points at them. I've always wanted to take her hunting, but I took her shooting once, she got spooked, and now she will not walk with me if I am holding a gun. She gets spooked by thunder and firecrackers.

I believe it can if you begin by making noise with pots & pans & clapping your hands gradually to increase the noise level.* Then proceed to shooting a 22 caliber & gradually work up in calibers from there to noisier ones. Watch how the dog responds to each step, but don't move on from one to the other until the dog has been conditioned & accepted each one beginning with the pots & pans & so on.* Praise the dog each time it responds the way it should to the different sounds.*

It is possible, but the dog's fear is already deeply rooted if it is 5 yrs old and scared of loud noises. Talk to a professional dog trainer and see if this won't case the dog more harm.

NO
This dog has already developed a fear of loud sounds, the only thing you'll do is freak her out more. Don't even mess with it anymore.
