Some may reason that since 'it is okay' to take blood derivatives, why not also just donate, store or take whole blood transfusions?

That would be like a 1st Century Christian reasoning, that, since Paul said it was "okay" to eat the sacrificed meat, they might as well just go ahead and sacrifice a bull to Zeus in a pagan temple. As Paul indicated in the 8th chapter of 1ST Corinthians, the problem lies in the lack of knowledge on the part of those weak in conscience.

Matters of conscience can be very difficult for immature Christians to deal with.

We would not have the blood stored for us, but there is something called the cell saver. It keeps your blood running out side your body, but it does not stop. It's as if it was running through your entire body, just a longer process. It's left up to the person's conscience. Look up some more info on the cell saver.

I don't think it's still allowed... they view it as "drinking blood", even if it is their own blood. I wouldn't say it's the same because of the intention... it was forbidden in Genesis because people "drank blood" to worship other gods or part of a religious ceremony that was not pleasing to God. People who get blood transfusions in the hospital are doing so not because of some cult but because their life would not be sustained without it. My opinion, which is just that--an opinion--is that God would not find it displeasing. It is done in aiding someone--helping a fellow man. If it is truly their time to go, then NOTHING will prevent that from happening-God is in control.
