Neal8smile, I think you missed the most important verse....I'm sure it was just not intentional...I'll pick up with your last verse:
29And Jacob asked him, and said, "Tell me, I pray thee, thy name." And he said, "Why is it that thou dost ask after my name?" And he blessed him there.
30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel [that is, The face of God]: "For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."

Grace unto you, and peace,
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
LOL, at plastipunk's answer:
he went to lawhse, legally changed his name,
as if from OT Law (Jacob) to NT Law (Israel).
Many deceived by many do this to rid "generations" curse.
CJ folk do it, not knowing Law vs Law is as Loser vs Loser.
Moses' law was a "great terror" to all "Israel": Deut 34:12.
Jesus is only the Saviour of Israel (of Jacob-->Israel).
Christ is the Saviour of the world (not just of some).
Jesus was made under the law: Gal 4
Christ is the end of the law: Rom 10:4
Law: I will forget you and I will forsake you: Jeremiah 23:39
Grace: I will never leave you nor forsake you: Hebrews 13:5
Eternal salvation is "through Jesus-->Christ".
Peace with God is through Law --> Grace.
Israel got established, again, in 1948;
Notably by America and Great Britain.
As if by two beasts giving place to Law.
Two Global graphs began to shoot forth in 1967.
Which things are an allegory, and mystery to solve.
Lest all perish by law instead of none perish by grace.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

According to the Zohar (the bible of jewish mysticysm.... on which kaballah is based) Israel is the collective consciousness of the enlightened and an Israelie is one of the enlightened. These are Gods chosen ppl. for they have seen the light. (both the inward and the outward and connected the two). Being part of Israel is not a rite of birth in the physical world limited by genetic connection but it is re-birth in the spiritual world where the divine love of God is realized by the individual. ( The Budah, Mashiach (Messiah), Jesus, Isa, Christ, The God Conscious, Istha Deva, Avatar or any other name that points to the image of God realized in man)
"I am he, as you are he, as you are me and we are all together" (J. Lennon)
Blessings and peace to all,
All in all,
B

Just as was done for Abraham, he was given a new name when he entered into a covenant with Heavenly Father.
This blessing is also promised to all of us.
Revelations 2:17 To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Gen 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
Gen 32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
Gen 32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
Gen 32:27 And he said unto him, What [is] thy name? And he said, Jacob.
Gen 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Gen 32:29 And Jacob asked [him], and said, Tell [me], I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore [is] it [that] thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

Wow, I hadn't learn that tale for many years. I had idea he had wrestled with an angel, no longer God. Apparently God have to suck at wrestling. Its exciting that God advised Jacob to permit him pass for the reason that it used to be nearly sunlight. Apparently, God had to get out of there for the reason that the solar used to be going to upward push? God additionally rejected Cain's providing for the reason that it used to be fruit and greens, and accordingly no blood used to be shed with the providing and God calls for blood for forgiveness of sins. OK, so now we have a God that it sounds as if has an aversion to daylight and calls for blood. Where have I heard of whatever like this earlier than? It sounds particularly acquainted....

..put the hand and take and read..
is at the begining of the bible..Iacob was the son of Isaac..In short..God liked him, and Jacob saw His angels (in dream and in reality. After leaving his father in law, while he was turning back home (and made peace with his brother), God in person came in night leke a stranger and fought with Jacob hand to hand, but God couldn't defeat him, probably Jacob received a power according to His faith, from God Himself. They fought and fought..and late The Stranger.(God)seeing that Jacob is strong and cannot beat him..told him that his name from now on will be Israel , because Jacov has fought with the people and with God..and won..so God said.
Obviously God c ould beat him with one finger..but he used a power comparable to humans power..
God also revealed that it was God Himself who fought with Jacob,,,,
