i just wanted to sleep in ONE day, but my dog wakes me up and he has to !go! outside. so, i let him out, get back inside, and my bird is screaming bloody murder.
(cockatoo, smallest of breed but dang she has a set of lungs. she could outscream a macaw any day. (dont take that to offense, macaw owners- its a figure of speech.)))

so, shes on my head now, i think sleeping (sigh), and i know shell scream if i put her in her cage, waking the rest of the household up.

so, how can i get her to go backl to sleep?

She is afraid of the dark, so i cant cover her or turn off the lights (which wouldnt help because the suns coming up right about.. now.)

PLEASE help me..!

Is it possible to put the bird in another room. I had to do the same with mine. I have a Cockatoo that screams bloody murder, to the point that my neighbor came over to see what all the noise was about. I also have cockitiels too who also had to be put in a different room. Thank God I have a big house. Maybe get the bird a mate. In the wild they live in flocks,It will solve your problem. I got mine a mate and are so quiet now. He just needed company, if a mate is out of the question, try a mirror.

I am sorry but this type of bird yells a lot and loud. You can't make them stop. But you can do things to help. Does she have toys and lots of them? Wood to chew on? Can you let her out on a play gym in the evening to work off energy, this might make her sleep longer. But I have to say I have a conure and lory parrots and they can be loud and they are up with the sun! I do have a bird room so I can shut the door and that helps with the noise level. Is there a toy that she likes alot that you can give her at night so she can play with it in the morning? Then take it out when you are up. If this doesn't work I think you better get use to less sleep. You can join a cockatoo yahoo group and ask them how to deal with this issue to.

Alright, Either Put her in her cage, sweet talk her. Then gently cover it up, leaving a small crack in it. continue to sweet talk her. Calm her nerves, then turn on the lights, but leave a little bit on near her cage, like a night light. Continue sweet talking. then ignore the hell out of her, do not give in, if you give in she'll know she can get you to get her out of the cage. If that doesn't work. Take her outside of your room, or either get a spray bottle and gentle spray her in the face. Not hard enough to make her afraid of you but to let her know, 'hey, you need to quit that.' IF ALL ELSE FAILS. Get either a smaller, or bigger cage. Some birds think too much space is creepy, and like smaller ones for comfort reasons, some do not like small ones because of being scared of tight spaces.

That is pretty funny. I feel for you. I used to have seven parakeets AND a giant mutt who came and laid on me at 5 am every morning wanting to go out. He would just flop his 120lb body on me, and that's how I woke up every morning!

Honestly, there's no way to get the bird to go back to sleep. I tried everything with my parakeets, who would all start singing as soon as the sun came up. They're birds, that's what they do.

Did she tell you she is afraid of the dark? I would still cover the cage and put her out of the room. and sleep i mean who is the boss here?
