The reason I ask is that I have used it and almost killed my cat with it. Hartz is aware of this issue and refuses to do anything about it. My cat went into severe convulsions. DO NOT USE THEM. All vets will tell you that these are very dangerous! Please throw them away and do not buy ANY HARTZ products.

Yes it can kill them! This is not conjecture, but a fact I'm dealing with at this very moment! 4 days ago I made the stupid mistake of buying a $5 flea collar from Walmart manufactured by Hartz. less than 24 hours later my cat could not be found because it went off to die in a box. when we did find it we immediately washed it with Dawn dish soap and took it to the vet the next morning, completely lethargic, leaking profusely out of her anus , eyes constricted, and just days away from eminent death . $500 and 24 hours later, after being hooked up on an IV all day event let us take her home . The IV temporarily gave her back her energy level but she refused to eat and after we took her home she quickly declined again this time adding vomiting to her list of symptoms. We then took her back and the vet told us that there has been no change today. if a cat does eat for 1 day they are in danger of having organ failure , we are on day 4. Sadly we will most likely have to put her tomorrow.

Everyone should know by now that the Hartz products SUCK!!! And there are MANY cases that involve deaths from the products.
People just see the cheap prices and buy them anyway!!!

Biospot is a waste of money too!!! I have seen tons of cats and dogs LOADED with fleas that had been treated with Biospot. Pay a little extra and get Frontline or Advantage!

I tell people this all of the time. I have seen horrible and deadly reactions to flea collars, and on top of that, they don't work to keep the fleas away either. I hope your kitty is okay now. I use revolution on my cats and never see a flea. It also takes care of ear mites, heartworm prevention, and deworms for some intestinal parasites. It requires a prescription from your vet in the US.

FYI: most flea collars aren't worth half of what you pay for them. I've never seen one that works. Also, I've worked with several veterinarians, and I've never heard any of them say anything good about "wal-mart" parasite products. (By "wal-mart" I mean products that aren't sold by veterinarians.) Use a name brand topical or oral flea control. I believe Advantage, Revolution and Frontline all come with a money back guarantee. Plus, when used as directed they are some of the safest parasite products you can buy.

IT'S TRUE. And they sell a 'spot' treatment for feleas that causes liver disease/failure.
HARTZ can be DEADLY. I don't know why it's even on the store shelves.
Flea collars should be avoided anyway, because the stuff on them goes right up into the cat's face.
I would stay away from walmart & grocery store flea or any other "medication".

Biospot is a good, inexpensive alternative, and can be used on ferrets, too. They have a spot treatment and a spray.

STAY AWAY FROM HARTZ.

I know, shocking isn't it. Have you seen www.hartzvictims.org ? Share your story on there! We have the same problem in England with Bob Martin products - the makers don't care, so long as they're making money.
