I take it this is your first time leaving them and you're having separation anxiety. I also hope you aren't heading to some war zone.
First, assume you are not going to die, 'cause you're not. Your cats may pick up on your anxiety which isn't going to help them, so calm down and think positively. Write up a not-too-long care list and hire the petsitter. On your care list, put a picture of each of your cats with their name next to the pic, also note any special thing each cat likes (or absolutely hates) so the petsitter has something to go on. Write down what you expect the petsitter to do (food, water, litterbox--brush the cats? take them for a walk? etc.). And at the bottom where it's easy to find, write down the name, address, phone of your vet, the emergency vet (if you have one), a family member or friend who can be called in case of an emergency--and verbally tell your petsitter too. Then, talk to your family member and/or friend who can be relied on in an emergency--tell them that you will be out of town and a petsitter will be caring for your babies, but if something should happen, the petsitter will contact him/her and you will reimburse him/her for whatever the cost was (so at least someone is immediately covering the bill so your cat(s) can get immediate care). Leave your family/friend your contact number but they are to call only in an emergency (which won't even happen but just in case). Also make sure your family/friend agrees that if anything should happen to you, what your wishes for your cats would be--kind of like your will (which you should also have made, with a section regarding the care of your cats if you should die--people leave money for the care of their pets (whoever takes in your pets gets money to care for your pets)). Let the petsitter know that you will call as soon as you get home (and I mean as soon) to let them know everything is fine; if you don't call, the petsitter should contact your family/friend (who has keys to your place) so he/she can come over and care for your pets. They won't be able to do as you do, but at least your babies will have the basics they need to stay alive (won't be abandoned). Make sure you have sufficient food and new litter for the petsitter to use. Really, great petsitters know how to care for pets and care about pets in general enough to want to make sure they aren't left without the basics. And just remember that in your absence, maybe your cats will learn to appreciate you more--they certainly will be glad to see you when you return (ok, mine put me through the "how DARE you leave us all alone, you are on punishment!" thing for a day until everything gets back to normal but that's just their way of letting me know, gee, we missed ya.

Relax, cats are very tolerant of change and are tough little critters. They will probably be upset withyou when you come home becasue you left them for a week but they are resiliant and will be back to normal in a few days after your return.
Cats aren't loyal and even IF you died, they would survive with anyone else and probably be happy.
You have worked yourself to a tizzy for nothing. Buy them some of those kitty cubes that you find at Wal-Mart for 3 dollars a piece... I bought 3 and they will not miss you while you are gone.
Enjoy your time and call only every other day or two. Give the pet sitter your number where you can be reached and the vet information etc. Write a detailed list on each cat and their preferences and allergies. Write a list of the color, sex and name of each cat so the pet sitter can give them individual attention.

I dont think you are freaking out. Just very very worried.
But as along with other answerers, they will be fine.
My friend as 1 cat, she is named (wait for it.) Oi-U. she was dumped ect. When he goes away, his neighbour takes care of her. The only thing that she does when he comes back, is give him the cold shoulder.lol. As tho to say "well you left me for 2 weeks, now i am going to ignore you till you say sorry." she is so funny. Cats are a law unto themselves.
Have come up with an idea and dont know if it eases your mind, why dont you leave a message for them on a answer phone if you have 1, or ring if and when you know the pet sitters are going to be there, then you be sure they ok. Your cats be fine. The only thing you gonna die of, is you going to die Missing them. Hope this ease your mind and try not worry to much. If you think the worse, it will happen. You are not going to die. your time is not up yet flower. :0)

first of all why do you think you would die while traveling...thats a bit negative.....
i have a cat and i often leave for the weekend.....with a half gallon food dispenser nd a gallon water dispenser they would be fine for a few days on thier own.....jsut have the sitter come at night or in the mornig to clean the litter and refill anything that had run out..........
cats are pretty good left alone
if one of the cats are ill on the other hand i would think about leaving it with a vet/kennel
it could be costly but then again if the cat is ill and needs more attention then it might be wise to elave it there instead of home

The pet sitter will take care of your cats while you're away, and you could die even if you don't travel. If you are concerned about what will happen to your cats if you can't care for them your self, then you need to find a friend or family member that will foster them should the need arise. Traveling won't kill you any more than staying home will keep you alive.

Cats can handle being alone for up to three days without having their humans around. You cannot do this with your dog.
So your pet sitter only needs to come by every other day to check their food and clean the litter boxes.
My husband and I have two cats and we leave extra plates of dry food and bowls of water out for them and give them an extra litter box when we're gone for several days. If it's more than two nights we have his sister come in and stay the night every other day. The cats are happy to have a human around.
Cats are PLACE oriented creatures. As long as they are at home with food and water they will be fine for three days. After that they do need a human for socialization.

Don't be afraid that you are gonna die! That's really bad and I think you might want to get some psychiatric help if you think you're gonna die all the time. You're cats will be fine because YOU WILL NOT DIE!
