My friends have a pair of lovebirds for several years. The birds had babies, 6 babies. They put two brother and sister in a same cage. I think my friends seldom play with the birds. The birds don't have out of cage time. I am thinking to adopt two of the birds. However, I want to tame them, play with them and sit on my shoulder. Is it possible? If yes, how? Please advise. Thanks.

If you want a loving bird you have to get them right after being hand feed,if you put two birds in the same cage they will be bird birds not people birds, but if you get a young one ,and I meen one the little or big birdy will become your best friend, follow you around the house, gently wake you up by cleaning your hair or eyelashes,a bird will pick their favorite person so make sure that you don' let friends handle it or others in your family,it will think of you as its mom or boyfriend or girlfriend.I had many birds small to big,my coca tail use to follow me everywhere and eat noodles and corn sometimes at dinner,he'd have his own plate and use to hang out with my cat since they grew up together and when my cat had babies it would get in with the kittens and the mom and drink from their water bowl,my cockatoo use to wake me up by cleaning my eyelashes and hair she thought i was her boyfriend but she only liked woman, these birds also had their wings clipped but not so bad as where they couldn't fly high enough to get on my shoulder.I had to get rid of them because I had children with allergies to their dust they put off,I miss them so bad.I also wanted to mention once my husband wanted to breed my cockatoo with another.once she was in with him her personality changed and preferred to be left alone with him ,but then once separated for a while she came back to me......so Good Luck in finding your special friend..........Mia

What every you do don't let them breed. The babies will have health issues or deformities. You need to separate them into different cages and work one on one with them. If they bit use a towel to get them out. Hold them to your chest and talk soft. Try to scratch the back of the head, this will be something they will look forward to as they tame. You can join a yahoo lovebird group and get more help on this and other questions you may have.
Please tell your friend to handfeed any new babies so they will be tame for people to take. They end up in shelters and rescue homes when not tame.

Personally, I would clip their wings. It does no damage to them whatsover, plus you can hold them so they get used to being handled It will be VERY difficult to tame them when they are already scared of you and you can't hold them because they will fly away. Because you don't want to clip their wings: Stand outside their cage and whislte/talk to them. Also, keep your hand inside your cage..don't make any sudden movements. Do this everyday. Eventually they will get used to your hand. Once they are they will wont care your hand is there and will walk on your hand and sit on your finger VERY IMPORTANT :You CANNOT separate lovebirds if they have shared the same cage and have "known each other"for some time because they will get attached. Some birds can live without mates, and just have you (eg: weiros..which I own) but lovebirds cannot. They will be very unhappy without their mate and actually die because of it.

With time and patience, it's possible. I think you should keep them in separate cages next to each other though. They think they don't need you because they have each other, and that's going to play a big part in whether or not you'll be able to tame them. Good luck!

Take a pass. These birds are bonded to each other. They will view you as a threat. These birds should only be considered as breeding stock or simply for viewing.

that is going to be almost immpossible now due to their age . I doubt you will be able to do anything with them other than listen to them sing and whistle from their cage . Lovebirds are rather difficult and sometimes mean spirited . I wish you luck though .
