When I or someone in the family gets sick, I like to go through the house and clean the kitchen and bathroom extra well with bleach. I also go through and use a spray bottle of water and bleach to clean all the light switches and door handles. (Sounds crazy, but think about it....EVERYONE touches these and they are usually neglected!)
I wash my hands more times a day than I normally would and always wash after I've touched any part of my face or have sneezed.
I have taken kindly to a product called Airborne. Its an herbal supplement that you take 3 times a day when sick. It is full of herbs and supplements that boost your immune system. It has seemed to speed up my own healing process and is great for a preventative measure if you plan on being in a heavily crowded (think germ ridden!!) environment. You can get this product at any drug store and Wal*mart. The link is below.
I keep lots of tissues around. One box in the living room, bedroom and bathroom.
Also, hand sanitizer is a marvel. Everyone should use it whenever possible if someone in the house is sick.
These steps should provide you with some infection control!! :D

washing your hands is the MOST important act you can do to prevent germs from spreading. and those hand sanitizers dont really work as well as people say so stick to good old soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds

As many others have stated, washing your hands is important. But it is equally important that your family members all wash their hands frequently as well. They are the ones that can contract the cold if they contact viral fomites (=germs on non-living surfaces) and transfer to their noses, eyes, or mouths.
Also, cover your cough by coughing in your sleeve or the bend of your elbow. You are more likely to transfer germs if you cover your cough with your hand.

Washing the hands has been proven, for years, to be the best way to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses.
Change your pillowcase every day (or oftener), don't kiss anybody, and let somebody else do the dishes. You may even consider using paper plates and plastic flatware for a few days.

The cold is in the air, you can be completely isolated, and go to the grocery store once a week and wind up with the same cold everybody else has , don't worry about it . if you don't give it to them someone else will ,, just breathing is what causes all germs ,, breath on ,, were all in this together

Wash your hands plenty. Cough and sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue away immediately. Also you can carry around some hand sanitizing gel with you and put it on your hands before and after touching a doorknob, shaking hands, etc.
Cheers and GET WELL SOON, hun!
