Mother Teresa was famous worldwide for her community service to the poor. But did you know that she experienced a crisis of faith during a period of time. Do all Christians experience this, or is her experience unique?

If you're worth your salt, you doubt. How superficial would your "faith" have to be if you had never questioned it? I'm sure there are plenty of people who go their whole lives without ever examining their own beliefs - but not the best people.

I'm not a big fan of organized religion generally, precisely because it encourages people to accept its premises out-of-hand, without criticism of any kind - but it's human nature to question (thank God!), and in fact we owe all our progress as humans to the fact that people have wanted to know MORE.

The experience is not unique. As a mystic prior to becoming a Christian, I was surprised to find myself suddenly experiencing the "dark night" in my relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. It was not so much a "crisis" as it is a defining moment in your spiritual growth. I knew that He had not forsaken me, but I definitely sensed an absence.

It may have felt like a the valley of the shadow of death, seeing sin through God's eyes with new understanding, and my own sinfulness. The other side, after going through this, was ecstatic. Know the verse about the living water? Imagine God's love flowing out and through you to others in an amazing, never ending torrent. What a mighty God we serve.

I'm told the "dark night of the soul" is very common for Christians. Some come out of it with renewed faith, and some go on to change their religion or become atheists. All depends on what fits you.

In my opinion, the dark night happens because you are noticing, at least subconsciously, contradictions in the things you believe. The shrinks call this "cognitive dissonance," and it can make you genuinely crazy if you don't face it and resolve it. Decide which of the two conflicting beliefs you need to let go.

Lot of Muslims think Islam as a brutal religion but instead all of that they call themselves Muslim so it is conflict between their believe and deeds. Have you ever asked them, why?
