For me its the 1 Corinthians 13 thing. ("Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have ...") That is loves true definition for me and the promise is to be commited to remembering what love truely is and keeping that commitment and promise even when you don’t feel that emotion or warm tingly sensation any more!
But alas, be prepared to experience disappointment, hurt, sadness and anger when you use the word Love, because if you truly love someone they will disappoint you, they will hurt you, and make you sad with all this said you will be angry and put your defenses up not to be hurt again. However the great thing about truly Loving someone is forgiveness, when you can truly forgive the person then you do truly love the person. I know that when I say I Love You to my family or friends it is not merely a word but my feeling of admiration and respect for them.

I love me. Loving others is just a reflection of the way we feel about ourselves. Love has acquired so many meanings, as is evident in the various answers here. However, to love is an action, something I do. It is not simply a feeling. Loving someone is to want that person to be happy and also have a deep abiding respect for him or her. I can tell the difference between loving someone because of how they make me feel versus loving someone unconditionally by choosing to love them flaws and all, even when things are not exactly going my way. If I rely on a feeling, then my love comes and goes, changing like the weather.
Loving others for who they are, not what I want them to be, is not only the most significant thing I can do for them, it also helps me to grow.
Loving unconditionally is the highest of arts.

To a friend or family member: You are an important part of my life and I care about you greatly. I would be very upset if something were to happen to you.
To someone I barely know: As a member of humanity, I think you're a good person. Everyone has some good and some bad in them.
To a romantic interest: I have some sort of connection with you, and care about you like for a friend, but there's something different about this love.

I admit I overuse these words. It really means different things when I use it with different people. I have love for everyone. I also love those near me in a different way. Honestly I cannot put into words what love really means. I just feel it and accept it for what it is.

when I say I love you it means I will do anything for that person, that I love being with them, that I love everything about them and do not want to change anything, and it means that whenever they need me - I'm right here

When I say "I love you", I mean something to the effect of, "It brings me great joy to know that someone like *you* exists on this planet".....(includes the "good" and the "bad" things about a person...)

That I put you (The person I mean) Above even myself in importance to my life.
Please note; I am an arrogant person, and I say this rarely.

Well to a friend I mean I will be a friend always, and will lift your name in prayer, and will help you as much as I can. I will not hurt you or leave you.
