tell some gullible people that if they don't donate, Jesus will get mad at them and send them to hell. worked 2000+ years ago and is still working today!!

There are lots and lots of ways. Just put the term "fund raising" into a search engine, and see what you get.
One of the ones I like is the merchandise made by Cafe Press. They can take any jpeg file and print it on tee shirts, tote bags, coffee mugs, mouse pads, and many other things. A great way to raise money, because they will also sell them for you over the Internet. And you can also buy them yourself (or your organization) and sell them at a profit.

Mass mailings work, if you have an effective letter. People like to believe they give for sensible, logical reasons, but when I was a staff writer for an international charity/relief organization, the letters that got the largest response, were those with a VERY STRONG EMOTIONAL APPEAL.

Hold a balloon race (5 dollar entry - helium balloons all tagged with a return address and number (or name and return address) are then released together - the one found furthest away and returned gets (? 50 bucks?) - good gamble - you should be able to sell 100 easy.
get a car given and raffle it off (depends how much money you want to raise) -

I've tried getting them to send money to legit enterprises here that feed children and they won't. This isn't the place to find charity.

bake sale, 50/50 raffle, regular raffle, dance with entrance payment and have another 50/50, have something that is wanted to auction off. Can't think of another right now.
