I am in total agreement with you, I say religion should be banned, for if you want to believe in A God, then why can't it be a personal relationship that does not involve a church or more importantly the Vatican. Religion is based on the bible and the bible is the word of man, not god

Why is it not banned? Because there are plenty of people who use religion for personal means and don't do any of those things. In countries where it has been banned, we've seen people who just clung to some other ideology and were far from being free of problems. I'm certainly not saying that religion makes everything better, or that religion has no dark and bloody chapters in its history. But it's not a harmful thing on ALL levels.
I view my religion as a personal TOOL, not a public CAUSE. I like having the structure of dogma, I love symbolism, and I like the beauty of organized ceremony. The idea of trying to convert somebody to my religion seems as ridiculous and pointless to me as trying to convince them to have the same favorite food as me. So why, exactly, should this freedom be taken away from me?

For religion. I do not follow religion myself, but was raised as a catholic. My view is simply that religion lays the groundwork for morals. Good and bad are dichotomies, i.e. they can't exist without each other, so in reality they are different ends of the same spectrum. Being aware of extreme good and extreme evil gives people a way to moderate their behaviour.
people are at the root of all evil, not religions.
How people interpret religion is the problem.

religion is not particularly evil. it's worse than that - if it were merely evil, it would be clear for all to see. actually religion is irrelevant. religion provides at best only the illusion of a solution to any human problems, and prevents people from seeking real solutions. unfortunately, one cannot force people to be free, so there is only so much that can be done - i don't think that banning religion would accomplish anything positive. certainly though religion can be mocked for the farce that it is.

Religion came to humans to guide them, and many misunderstood it. People need religion to be spiritually satisified. Like I said, religion is to bring peace to a human's soul, and people around the world use religion as an excuse for killing because they are misled and misunderstand religion. There are numerous religions worldwide and many followers to such religions and so it would be impossibel to ban it worldwide. I'm for religion by the way.

FOR religion. People blow up the sad things that have been done by fanatics in the past, not bearing in mind that humans wil always find reasons to kill each other.
Christians do a lot of good things, but believe they should not let the one hand know what the other does. I once did a quick search on the net on what Christians are doing in the world today, because I'm so sick of this one-sided accusation. Within minutes I had this saved on my computer:
1. Last year alone, CBN Partners:
ï§provided medical treatment to over 785,000 people;
ï§drilled clean, fresh water wells and cisterns for over 425,000 thirsty people;
ï§ended the suffering of over 625 children through cleft palate surgery;
ï§provided hundreds of thousands of meals;
ï§paid the school tuition and gave supplies to thousands of young students.
2. Emmanuel Activity Centre (EAC)
COH runs a day activity centre called Emmanuel Activity Centre (EAC), serving people who have:
Down’s syndrome
Intellectual disabilities
Autism spectrum disorder
Cerebral palsy
Multiple disabilities
3. We operate across the spectrum of violent conflict: from displacement to repatriation, from rehabilitation to the re-development of conflict-damaged communities. CORD’s key sectors are education and livelihoods. Our work also addresses cross-cutting issues: child protection, gender violence, trauma, HIV/AIDS, environmental issues and forgiveness and reconciliation.
I believe this is only the tip of an iceberg. Christians are making a HUGE change in this world and getting no acknowledgement for it.

Do you know what else kills alot of people, science. Guns, nuclear weapons etc. Think of all the civillians the US killed when they bombed Iraq, they couldn't have done that without science. Should we ban science too.
If we banned everything that could cause harm there wouldn't be anything left.
Also I don't know where you get your statistics from. Look at the past one hundred years, world wars I and II, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot.
Was religion responsible for the millions of people that died.
I feel that you should take your head out of your ***.

I am for religion.
People kill people. Religion is just one excuse.
I am Catholic. Religion gives us the necessary structure to keep us focused on Christ. Within that structure you have checks and balances to keep from running spiritually amok. As I'm sure you've seen, so many people believe that God would do this or God would never do that...etc. That is because they have made God their own "personal" God that believes and does as THEY do.
Within the structure of Catholicism we have the understanding of God handed down from the Apostles. This, coupled with sacred scripture, the authority of Christ's Church and the sacraments, make for a safe place to grow in faith and seek the truth. One can know very quickly if they are off the mark.
There are extremists everywhere who will attach themselves to any cause or belief. They do not speak for the religion, they are just the other end of the extreme tolerance that we see. We need to stay the course, pray for souls, and do the will of God.

Well come on, its not the root of ALL evil. People would still be greedy for money and power - people would still be ignorant, violent, callous and selfish if religion just vanished.
Religion is detrimental to humanity though and offers nothing of value. I think it holds back the entire human race because it encourages blind faith when free thought and critical enquiry are the only things that can set us free.

Religion has nothing to do with christianity. Some religions condone fear, terrorism, hate, death. There are fanatical religions - the most dangerous kind where a child is taught that martydom is honorable. A true christian lives and promotes the exact opposite. I don't want religion thanks.
