Its better to use a timer to coincide with when you get up and when you arrive back in the evening , about half an hour before each event is a good level .
Keeping it on low all day only means you will need to boost it when you get up , or come in during the evening , so much better to have the optimal temperature when you need it

do you need to heat those bedrooms during the day?Only use radiators in rooms frequently used in daytime. Timer best this time of year. Constant and low all day in depths of Winter and turn up temperature when required.

I think it's best to leave your heating on all day as it will keep your house at a comfortable temperature. Whereas if you where to have it on full for a couple of hours it's gonna get really hot and you'll want to turn it off hence losing all the heat that you've gathered.
Hope that helps,
Thanks!!

For about 35 dollars you can but a programmable thermostat that will turn down wile your gone and be warm when you come home. It will also turn down after you go to bed and raise the temp before you get up. The manufacture states a guaranteed 17% savings. Its called a set back thermostat and the times and frequencies are all programmable. Also it has separate weekend setting that you program separately.

It depends how long you are at home for, if you are at home all day leave it on low, if you work 9-5 then set the timer for an hour before you arrive home

Good insulation and double pane windows all around will really lower your energy costs. Make sure you don't leave doors ajar as well. A programmable thermostat is the best. However if you have children or pets you need to adjust to make sure your getting enough warmth around the clock.

That depends on how quickly your house cools down (level of insulation, thickness of bricks etc...)
If it cools quickly then you may as well leave your heating on low. Modern houses have good insulation, so just turn the heating on when you need it.

If you are going to be in all day, set the room thermostat to a temperature suited to activity, you will then have to turn it up when you are inactive, this is the cheapest way to keep the house warm.
