why did the Terminator sequels take so long to get made?, why were they put off so long?

I'm a big fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I think Terminator 2: Judgement Day is his best film & Terminator movie, but how come Hollywood took so long to make the sequels or put it off for a while?, because after the first movie in 1984, it took over half a decade, 7 years later in 1991 when Terminator 2 came out. Terminator 3 came out 12 years after Terminator 2 in 1991, why did Hollywood put it off so long?, thats over a decade!!!!, I don't know of any other movies that take so long for sequels, most average movies have sequels like every 2-3 years, & sometimes 4. Now it looks like they are gonna be taking forever for Terminator 4, but that's obvious because Arnold Schwarzenegger is Governor of California now.

When the original Terminator came out, it wasn't an instant hit. In fact, I don't think it really gained a following until it came out on video. At the time, I don't think there was even an idea for a sequel. I think the idea for a sequel came about years later once the movie had gained a cult following.

Again in the case of T3, I don't think there was ever a plan for a sequel. I think it came about more because Arnold and James Cameron were interested in doing another movie and they finally had a good script.

The last I've heard about T4 is they are planning to make the fourth movie but Arnold won't be involved. I haven't hear when they will start production or when it's planned for release.

actually 4 comes out in 09

but i heard cameron never had any intenion of doing a sequel.

at any point

but some movies just come back around.

When 3 was in the works it was announced they were going to do 3 and 4 (by cameron) and it would go into the post nuclear war between man and machine

but now cameron and maybe arnold are gone.

But not like we need Arnold for 4 its not about him anyway.
