We despise the rote repetition of previously asked questions, yet marvel at the imagination and insight of children who conceive good questions. Why is it that this forum arbitrarily makes us spend points for questions when good, original questions are the source of all good answers?

And who decides on what is a good question?

The system works as it is at present.

1) As long as you pick your own BA you only need to answer one question to get your points back.

2) Losing points for asking questions limits the damage that the trolls & spammers can do at low levels

3) Losing points cuts down on the dross that is posted, though there is enough of that already

4) Giving points would just encourage people to post rubbish, rather than answering the questions already there.

Just look on it as a fee for getting the information you wanted.

EDIT: And I disagree with the answerer below as well, giving points for stars won't work, as many users simply use stars as bookmarks, it doesn't mean that the question is good. It would also encourage point gaming groups to just go round starring each others questions.

EDIT 2: KEITH - You DO NOT get points for a question being starred.

You get points if your question is starred. This is how you get points for asking good questions.

thge questioners choose the questions. it is for the answerers to choose the questions for reply. personally, i prefer to answer even the most simple question. quite possible, for the questioner, it is important.
