Well, it depends on the animal(s) you want to get--if you're going to buy a puppy, for example, it makes sense to start with one. Then, there are some animals that are much happier in groups or pairs, such as gerbils and rats. Fish can be kept in groups without needing much extra care, and I'm pretty sure birds can live together (and enjoy it).
...Then there's the question of how much money you're willing to spend, and how much space you have in your house (or what the rules are regarding pets, if you live in an apartment).
I say, get as many as you want, so long as you know you have the time, space, money, and that you're willing to care for all of them equally.

What ever is right for you & your free time. Some only have time for one pet to care for while others make a business out of caring & breeding pets for profit. It basically is a full time job tho. Everyone's situation is different.

1st of all it depends on wot pets ur talking about. Big, small, and what space you have. Pets are a huge responsibility that need a lot of love, care and attention. Also the expense of them....vets, food, bedding, walking n exercises etc...

Depense on your counsil laws-for example i live in house with less than 4000squares. I can only keep 2dogs&two cats.

If I lived in a house with more than 4000squares I can have 4 cats&4 dogs

a cat
4 hamsters(or more..i think)
...hmm...

7?

it's okay to have many as long as you can take care of them..
try getting small ones like hamster so it wouldn't be that much of a handful to you.
