I have a misdemeanor for petty theft and currently live in Stockton Ca. I am so angry at myself and am very frustrated because I can't get a job to save my life. I have had so many doors slammed in my face, that's it's not funny and some temp agencies that I want to apply at (due o the companies they service) said that I can't even apply if I have a misd. for petty theft and how they only want the "highest quality" employees to offer to their clients. Made me feel like sh!t. I've had jobs my entire life and granted I did make a kid mistake at the age of 23, however I had no representation, I just plead guilty and they gave me 3 years of probation and made me pay $310.00 for taking 25.00 worth of food for my family. We were doing bad at the time. I've never done anything like this in my life and now employers wont even look at my resume. Nobody seems to want to help me as far as programs for employment, public defenders are not helping me, should I get a lawyer, would it be worth it?

No, your energy would be better spent pounding the pavement looking for work.
Your obstacle is not insurmountable. Those temp agencies are a waste of time. I'm college educated, with a clean record, and a professional appearance and demeanor, and they couldn't do squat for me.
Your best bet is to find out what type of jobs you have the qualifications for and start emailing, cold calling as many companies as you can asking for an interview. Don't even mention the petty theft and if it comes up in a background check just tell them the truth.

Unless you wish to needlessly pay money for a legal professional appearing as a lifestyles educate, that may not be a lot support. Even although you have been younger and silly, the grownup conviction cannot be vacated. If you feel a letter of mitigation could support get you within the door, anticipate to pay a lawer no less than $2 hundred.00; nonetheless, there are a few much less luxurious choices. You would write the pass judgement on and request a nice efficiency file out of your probation officer. This could be superior to undocumented touch with an already skeptical subordinate. Because it's not a proper record, you would attraction to a regional legislation college or identical undergraduate software. Providing offerings like this support increase a pupils submit graduate placement attention. Also, a regional ministry alliance would furnish a extra non-secular tone. Alternatively, you'll be able to google your town title and "professional bono" for attorneys who could donate this time. Most attorneys are field to an implied quantity of provider time as a situation in their bar arrangement club. Now, in your resume. You didn't say how this turns out to arise in all of your interviews. It remains to be a misdeameanor and will have to be handled as not more than a sensible site visitors price ticket. If it does arise and you're no longer at ease with a professional no, say: " Just the average scrapes that youngsters have...hookie, curfew, matters like that. " The simplest query to reply is one that's not ever requested. Don' t provide a unmarried impulsive act extra concentration tfhan it merits. Good Luck.

I am sorry you had to resort to stealing food! Where is your husband or boyfriend? Do you have children? I guess my one question to you is did you try and get aid such as food stamps? Now you are in a quagmier in that you have criminal record and now it will be hard to get employment again! What happened to the job you had previoulsy? I know you mentioned an attorney, but how would you afford one unless you got a public defender? I wish I had better answers for you. But you are going to have a very hard time when you go in for interview, because if they consider hiring you, once they run a background check, you will not be hired!
Its really ashame, especially for $25 worth of food!! Do you have family members that could have helped you with food on the table?
I wish you luck with this.. Its a tough situation!

No need to get a lawyer, the case is settled, that is on your record. It will show up each time a background check is done on you for the next 4 to 7 years. Best bet , when you apply for a job, before a background check is done explained yourself to the employer what happen.

You need to rebuild your employment history. You'll have to start at the bottom, at the lowest-paying jobs that do not do background checks, and work your way up from there.
You MIGHT be able to get a lawyer and have the conviction expunged from your record, but it's a long shot and it will be expensive.
