Is there a big difference between DDR400/333/266? And what does CL2.5 mean?

DDR 400 runs at 400mhz, therefore the fastest. DDR266 is slowest. CAS2.5 or CL2.5 is the latency, lower is better. Most ddr400 would have CL3, the more expensive/high performance ones could have CL2 or 2.5. Gamers prefer CL2 or 2.5.

DDR400 is faster than 333/266. I have DDR667 replaced my DDR333 and its a lot faster. CL2.5 refers to latency - the time it takes for input to travel from the memory controller to the pins.

DDR400/333/266 refers to the memory speed. The higher the number, the faster it performs. in this case DDR400 is the fastest of the three.

CL means CAS (column address strobe) latency-- The lower the number, the better it performs.

512Mb A-Data PC2700 DDR SO-DIMM DDR333 CL2.5 Memory module
apparently all the methods of speed rating are similiar

If you have a FSB of 266Mhz DDR 400 will work fine
but will run at 266Mhz

your DDR speed has to be at least the FSB rating

FSB=Front Side Buss
