I heard that a new film, possibly an independent film based on more accurate accounts of David Crockett's life is in the works. I only stumbled on this today, and through several recent searches I have only found one or two hits, but with no detail or actual confirmation if this is true. I checked IMDB, and did'nt have any luck, so my hopes are cut a little short. But if anyone can confirm this, or knows of a way to get this info, please let me know.

New movie in development brings out the “Real” Crockett

(PRWEB) May 23, 2005 -- With all of the “Revisionist” history floating around the movies, it is refreshing to see something old, something new. That is exactly what the new “Davy Crockett – A story of America” is all about.

The new indie film is almost through the complete development stages and ready for pre-production. The story centers around the “True” life and times of David Crockett, as told by the people that knew him and the actualities of the legend that span the test of time.

This is a positive and historical version says Thomas Bond, producer of the project, “It will be as historically accurate as possible, down to Crockett’s cigar”. The new “Crockett” will also be a far cry from the recent film “The Alamo” which takes a lot of its information from the diary of Jose Enrique de la Pena, whom many consider a forgery. It also was a disaster at the box office.
Bond states “We do not take one point of view, but we take what we feel are the most creditable views, that have stood the test of time.”

The Crockett movie begins its story with Crockett a newly married man to his first wife “Polly”. Crockett is a backwoodsman who holds the rights of the poor and unfortunate close to his heart. The film follows him through his first “Indian war” to which he witnesses a massacre of the Creek tribe by a future President. This affects him so much, he champions the cause of Indian rights, and eventually is banished from Washington because of his views. This is when he decides to leave the country and help start a new one, “Texas” which at that time was a fledgling republic, not a U. S. State. This is where he perishes defending the republic at the battle of the Alamo.

The big question is, who will be the new “Davy Crockett”? “We have spoke with several known actors, and very enthusiastic on the response.” Bond continues “I’m not telling” Bond says, “But it will be someone unique that no one is expecting”. The new “Crockett” is expected to have some other familiar faces appearing in the historic film.

Bond continues “In these days, many take pride in the slow and insidious destruction of every American “Hero’ we have. Truths are distorted, facts ignored, and history re-written to serve the purpose of a popular point of view, rather than factual truth. We are proud of our American Heroes, and want to bring that to the people”. The film is being produced by the Biograph company.
