My brother got his girlfriend pregnant. The grandma has custody of this girl. She's making her get an abortion. The girl says shes doing it cause her grandma is making her and so the law doesn't do anything to my brother. My brother slit his wrists tonight. The law cant make her abort it or the grandma right? Or cant she at least have the baby and let our family take it in? I'm totally against abortion and its late with no one to talk to thats why im posting. My brother is in the hospital, after doing that. I saved his life by sending an ambulance. I have two kids of my own thats why im so against her killing the fetus. Please excuse the going on and on of a girl who almost lost her brother, and trying to save the life of an innocent. but can someone point me where to look for answers on the rights this baby has, and the rights that the 16 year old mother has?

No, it is the girl's decision and hers alone. If she does not actually want the abortion, she does not have to have one. And, if she goes into the clinic and they ask her if she's there of her own free will, if she says "no" or seems AT ALL hesitant about her decision, they legally cannot perform the abortion for her.
She may actually want to have the abortion and be hiding behind the grandmother's strong personality. Has anyone actually stopped to talk to the young Woman? She may not want to keep the pregnancy herself.
Peace,
Jenn

at 16 you can become an emancipated minor and become a legal adult. Is it possible the gf can stay with you ? I think it is sick for a grandma to make you have an abortion. I don't think that is even legally or morally acceptable and is actually abusive.
If she is in school have her speak to the guidance counselor who can really help direct her . I am sure they encounter this all the time. I am also sure an abortion clinic would not perform this procedure on someone who does not want one and is forced into having one. I am sorry to hear about your bro. I am sure this was a cry for help but am a little confused. is your bro 18 or over ? Do they want the baby ? I am sure there are alot of factors going on. Talk to the grandmother yourself and get the facts from her. maybe the gf wants to have one and this is an excuse. No matter what PRAY. God is in control and He wants the little one born more than anyone else.

Here is what I found. I hope it leads you to the answer you are seeking.

I don't believe in abortions either. I think it is entirely wrong to force a minor to have an abortion. After all, that is HER body and her baby! The G-ma has no say in what decision she is to make. I vote for the girl to get emancipated, as the reply below me suggests. That just may be her best option. Good luck! I hate to hear about situations like this. Sadly, mothers that young are manipulated because of their vulnerability. It sucks!

Not an answer, but advice and PROPS for taking the initiative to help your brother and his girlfriend. I hope that you can find help and that she is not coerced into having an abortion.
Abortions to my knowledge cannot happen if the girl does not consent to it herself, but in some cases I have heard of abortion clinics still going through with an abortion even though the mother was screaming for it to stop. This is one of many reasons why abortion clinics and abortions are evil.

im sry to hear about your brother, but im sure hes really strong. Talk to him about talking to both his gf and her grandmother. Im pro choice, and if i were in that situcation i wouldnt want anyone telling me what to do but me. let her decide what is right for her. If she wants it then maybe she can move in with u. nobaby can make u get an abortion...they were trying to set up a law not to long ago where u had to get a parent to sign if u wanted an abortion and u were under the age of 18, but it never passed due to my knowledge, so if she wants it, then she can have it, but dont pressure her, shes probably already stressed enough as it is

which country are you in? this makes a difference to the laws. Im in the uk and here it is legal to have sex a 16 with consent. So if both are 16 then there is no law to say that they cant have a baby together, the girl has the right to make the decisions about the baby here - if it were here i would say that the granny is just taking over. sorry to hear about your brother

The girl is 16? I don't believe that anyone can make her have an abortion, but she is 16 and having a baby can be very harmful to a young body. If her doctor says that then I believe yes she may have to have one. I believe it is the girls decision as it is her body. Now that only pertains in the U.S.A. as in this country no one can make us do anything.

I'm unaware of any state in which a parent or guardian has the right to order an abortion for their minor charge. If you think she's being coerced illegally, call the police or sheriff. I believe in a woman's right to choose, and forcing someone to kill a child she wants is a disgusting concept to me.

Abortion should be stopped as soon as possible! As the laws say, the Church does not support abortion! Just because her grandmother wants her to abort the growing fetus, it does not mean she should follow her! If you still have time, please tell her to ignore the plea of her grandmother simply because it is the wrong thing to do. I may not be a woman who could get impregnated, but I could still differentiate what's right from wrong!

You need to contact social services in your area and tell them the situation. As far as I know a parent/guardian can not force the minor in their care to have an abortion.
