it's just another affirmation for a huge artist.. Even if an artist doesn't get inducted in the rock & roll fame, his/her talent alone would speak for himself. one doesn't need a special citation for that, although it helps..a lot!

Not really that important. The Sex Pistols called the museum a "piss stain", but then again, that's their style.

I will admit that a good deal of the bands I like are on the list, but relatively obscure but good bands are generally not listed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Also, I believe they are rather biased. There is only one progressive rock act in there, or so I've heard, and it's Pink Floyd. What about the other greats, like Yes?

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has some weird moments as well. First of all, there seems to be A LOT of R&B and soul artists, as well as some pop artists too. There are also traces of funk and blues mixed in. All those inductees are great artists, but seriously, they aren't rock 'n' roll. And the oddest inductee was Miles Davis in 2006. He's a jazz trumpeter, not a rock guitarist!

I'd imagine fans get angry when their favorite artists do not get nominated because they feel that their band is good, of course, and therefore they should win something. They feel that in order for the band to be good, they have to be inducted into the famous Hall of Fame.

And no, being inducted is not the biggest accomplishment for an artist. The biggest accomplishment for any artist is their impact on other artists. Because when they die, they know they've made a difference in popular culture.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is completely irrelevent. The board gets paid off by those who will bid the most for those 'sacred 5 spots' each year. It doesn't matter if the band or musician was rock or not. It doesn't matter if their music wasn't any good or influencial, as compared to others. It doesn't even matter if the band or musician wants the award or not.

It's all money and politics and very little about music. When you have musicians and bands like Robin Trower, Boston, KISS, George Harrison, Foreigner, Styx & Joe Satriani shut out and others like Sex Pistols, Professor Longhair, Benny Benjamin, Brenda Lee and Ricky Nelson taking their place, you know something is definitely wrong !

I was going to say that it is not that important, but when I read some of the other answers, I thought maybe it is important after all. If someone thinks people like Robin Trower, Boston, KISS, Foreigner, Styx & Joe Satriani are more deserving than the Sex Pistols, Professor Longhair, Benny Benjamin, Brenda Lee and Ricky Nelson, we NEED a Rock & Roll Hall to explain WHY that is a scary lack of comprehension of what Rock & Roll is.

The ballot committee seems to be trying as hard as possible to make the Hall completely irrelevant. Limiting inductions to five a year is bad enough, but this year they've managed to snub first-time eligibles Sonic Youth and Metallica, two of the most obvious locks, as well as completely remove the Stooges from the ballot after failing to induct them for the sixth time last year.

EDIT: To the guy below, George Harrison IS in, and as for the Sex Pistols, if your primary qualifiers for induction are supposed to be innovation and influence, then they most definitely deserve in over Styx.

My biggest complaint about it is that it seems to be a popularity contest run by Rolling Stone magazine's Jann Wenner. If he likes a particular artist, then that group or individual has a much better chance of getting in than someone who was more commercially successful but is somebody he doesn't like.

RoVale said it best. That is exactly why that HOF is little more than a joke. I'm sure the fans get more upset over the exclusions than the actual artists. They already know what a farce it is.

It's not important at all. In fact its rather dumb. The rock and roll hall of fame is a building in Cleveland Oh that charges you 40 bucks a person to look at mannequins wearing old constumes. Been there three times personally. Only reason for going back was the sound box with jimmy hendrix live. Now THAT was worth the cost of admission! LOL

Very important--if you're on the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce.
