and i haven't had any problems with it for about 6 months, but last night it started throbbing. i know there's not really a whole lot that can be done for a broken toe, but what can i do to stop the throbbing? is it better to use hot or cold, i can never remember? Thanks.

Put ice on it and go see a doc

Try cold. If that doesn't work, try heat. And call your doctor about the problem.
