How about balloons filled with water or sand? You could draw on the balloons with felt tip markers.

Wow 3D Studio Max is the best, they made shrek using that program. Of course there are easier programs like macromedia flash mx.

You can download any of these programs for free with torrents searching in different torrent portals. The one I use is www.thepiratebay.org
