If being an opportunist is a crime, then why is it only a crime when it's commited by illegal immigrants?

In response to another poster, the reason more Americans don't take these jobs is because they pay horribly and it's practically impossible to be able to live on those wages. Also, a lot of the employers don't really want American workers anyway. They would rather use immigrants who don't know the language and are unfamiliar with the laws and regulations of this country. That's because ignorant, uneducated workers are much easier to exploit and discard when they are no longer needed.

Your are right and, I agree with you. Here is an example for you to ponder over.
In Michigan the big company farms hired many illegals to do the work, the were caught and fined. The illegals were sent back. Three years later, they were again caught hiring illegals and fined, the illegals were sent back.
Skip forward two years, again, the same unrelated company farms were once again hiring illegals, they were caught for the third and, for some, the fourth time.

The illegals were turned loose until they could be shipped back, it would take the bureaucratic motion time to move the paper work, in the meantime they, the illegals had to eat, you guessed it, they went back to work for the same company farms they were arrested at while waiting to be shipped back to Mexico.

Who's to blame for this fiasco? who is to blame? we, the people from this area turn our back on it for one reason, it's such a screw up by the Feds it's comical and, we wonder what's going to happen next.
Had a young illegal not drowned this summer making it sad, we wouldn't give a darn. Now, we don't care. And, the funny think about it, they can't say no white or American will work for those wages because they pay pretty good. I would work there if it was close and I was looking for work, it's clean, good work and, easy.

You tell me, who's at fault?

Yeah but only the businesses who hire immigrants just to be able to pay illegal wages. My husband works in a restaurant (kitchen full of immigrants) but the restaurant pays fair wages. These people are some of the most dedicated and hard workers he's ever encountered. Whenever a "white" person gets hired, they are usually lazy and talk back, then usually quit not too long after starting. I can't stand those people who blame immigrants as problems. They say our jobs are being taken away, Americans don't want these jobs, and the immigrants are just looking to better their own lives. I'm not saying they are all angels, but they are definately not the only problem. If Americans want "their" jobs back, we first need to stop outsourcing. Priorities people.... We should blame the Statue of Liberty.... "....Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

You've got a good point, but --

--did you forget that illegally immigrating into the US is a FELONY?

--and that working 'under the table' is also a FELONY?

I blame the employers too, don't get me wrong. I think companies with illegal workforces (including agribusiness) should have 50% to 80% of their annual sales receipts taken and applied to resettling their illegal workforces back into their homelands, whether in China, Hungary or Honduras.

As for the immigrants themselves, did it ever cross your mind that they should be working on making their own country better instead of emigrating? I think of this whenever I see a doctor from India. If ever a place needed all its trained professionals, that's one of them!

The crime isn't being opportunistic, its breaking our border laws. But you are correct. Part of the problem is employers who see illegals as cheap labor and use them as such. That is why authorities should go after such employers and punish them enough to deter such actions in the future. The vast majority of illegals come to the US for opportunity, take away the opportunity by cracking down on law-breaking employers and you solve two problems in one policy. But, unfortunately, money rules in this case instead of the rule of valid constitutional law.

Because illegal immigrants aren't suppose to be here in the first place. But if they do happen to get hired it's only because the employer wants to get cheat labor as long as he can.

Many illegal immigrants are hired to do work in the UK long before they set foot in the UK. They are mostly employed by gangmasters. This all came to light with the Morecambe Bay cocklers. This trade has been going on for decades and successive goverments have known about it. Everyone in the UK benefits from this human trade through cheap produce in the shops. You may all complain about these illegal immigrants who are desperate to work, but you still benefit through cheaper prices.

To the girl above me:

The man asked about jobs and immigrants not about social services, you dummy. Why do you assume every one of them is using social services, why? Because you are just another ignorant person in this country who does not even know the correct facts.

Hiring illegal immigrants is wrong. Sneaking into a country and taking advantage of it's social services is wrong.

Because they are illegal? Because they want to work? If you keep bashing the farmers, we will not only see higher food prices, shortages, import poisoned foods, but quite likely even a famine. The question is how do we weed out the terrorists? How about using work visas? The American 'poor' workforce are worthless in the fields. They know nothing about field work, many have suspended drivers licenses, are in trouble with the law, and/or are not motivated to do a proper job. Why should they work when they can get welfare for doing nothing?
